Before Victoria could reply, Alfen continued, “I told them a few days ago to bring this up with you all and try to convince Cassia.”
There’s more to this?
Victoria frowned.
“I never heard Danica or Brie say anything. Maybe they forgot?”
“Forgot? Before we even left Cubresh, I talked to both Danica and Brie again. They told me they had already told you, but said it didn’t work at all.”
Victoria and Alfen came to the same conclusion.
“I never thought those two would hide something like this. Don’t worry, Mr. Hoge. When they get back, I’ll discipline them properly.”
After talking a bit more, Alfen hung up.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he
got.
Especially when he remembered Cubresh–how convincing Brie had looked when he asked her about it. The thought made his blood boil.
Geneva had already finished cooking. Since it was winter, she kept the dishes warm in the pots so they could eat as soon as Vance and the girls came home.
Her three precious daughters had just returned from Cubresh, so she had made a big, filling meal to help them recover.
She stepped out of the kitchen and wiped her hands on her apron.
In the living room, she saw Victoria sitting stiffly on the couch with her arms crossed. The TV was off, and her face looked heavy.
The girls were about to be home. Why did Victoria look so upset?
“Victoria, what’s wrong?“.
Geneva took off her apron and hung it on the hook by the kitchen door. Then, she walked over

and sat on the small stool across from Victoria.
Victoria told her everything Alfen had said.

“That teacher really said that?” Geneva’s eyes widened in shock. Then, she squinted and smiled, pride and happiness shining in her eyes.
She never imagined her daughter had that kind of talent.
“Yes,” Victoria said, nodding.
She was genuinely surprised and pleased to learn that Cassia had such talent.
In Victoria’s memory, Cassia had always done badly in school and had no hope of getting into a university. She had even pushed Cassia toward the arts. But after just one piano club session, Cassia broke the piano. Victoria had been so angry that she decided to stop caring.
But if Cassia joined a volleyball training camp, she could get into university as a sports- specialty student.
Alfen had even said that if she performed well and won the city volleyball tournament, she could get guaranteed admission to Vego University.
If Cassia really got into Vego University as a star athlete and became famous one day, it would bring great honor to the Woods.
What bothered Victoria, though, was that such wonderful news had been deliberately hidden by Danica and Brie.
Those two girls had always been well–behaved and never lied.
“This is such great news,” Geneva said, scratching her head in confusion. “Why would Danica and Brie hide something like this about Cassia?”
Yeah, why?
Victoria couldn’t figure it out either.
Just as both women were puzzled over it, the front door opened.
“Mom, Grandma, we’re back.”
Brie and Danica walked in.
The moment they entered, they saw Victoria sitting on the couch with a stern face and Geneva

“Mom, Grandma … what’s going on?”
