“She can’t teach me,” Cassia said. She remembered playing volleyball with Danica. Her skills were terrible.
Victoria frowned, her patience wearing thin.
“Fine. Go to the training camp then. Danica told me you already agreed to take her spot in the February tournament, right? You need practice.” Victoria didn’t expect Cassia to become some elite athlete at Vego University anymore. She just hoped her granddaughter wouldn’t embarrass the family in the city tournament.
Cassia kept playing with the dog, acting like Victoria’s words didn’t even exist.
“That’s it. I’ll call your P.E. teacher and sign you up.” Victoria made the call right then and there.
“I don’t need you to decide that for me.”
Cassia stayed focused on the dog, her voice calm and distant.
“You-” Victoria was fuming at the defiance. She pointed at Cassia, snapping, “I’m your grandma! I have the right-”
“When you all abandoned me, you stopped being my family.”
Victoria froze, eyes wide, panic creeping in.
What does she mean? Does she know?
Cassia pushed herself up from the ground, her sharp gaze locking onto Victoria’s. She clenched her right fist and held it between them.
“I know what scares you. So

got it?”
She tilted her head slightly, a faint, wicked smile tugging at her lips. She looked like a little harbinger of doom, sending shivers down Victoria’s spine.
“G–got it … I’ll discuss things with you from now on. I won’t make decisions for you anymore…”
Victoria trembled, her voice shaking and her body quivering. Her thick winter coat was damp with cold sweat.
Fear lingered when she thought about it.

Before, Cassia had let it slide because Victoria was her grandmother. This time, Cassia had probably had enough and finally issued a warning.
What an unpredictable girl!
That afternoon, Cassia went to The Lennox.
The Millers were coming to talk about acquiring the hotel.
They sent Ryder Miller, the managing president of their hotel and the youngest grandson of the family.
Nicole was busy at Seer’s CEO office, so Jake handled the reception.
Since Cassia was the chairwoman, Nicole and Jake were acting on her behalf. It didn’t really matter who met the guests.
Ryder handed Jake a stack of sleek business cards, clearly trying to impress and assert dominance.
The Millers knew the Lennox would be a challenge, so they weren’t holding back.
Sending the Miller heir showed they were taking it seriously.

Cassia leaned back on the couch behind Jake. From Ryder’s angle, he couldn’t see her face- just that it was a girl.
He assumed she was Jake’s family and didn’t think twice.
“Hello, I’m the owner of the Millers‘ Hotel. I called to make an appointment before.”
Ryder offered a symbolic handshake, though his face already showed disdain.
Jake looked at Ryder’s hand, then at the flashy cards thrown at his face.
After a moment, he casually tossed the cards onto the table. “Let’s get straight to business.”
No handshake.
Jake’s attitude was a direct slap to Ryder’s face.

Floral shirt, baggy shorts, flip–flops–that was a total disrespect for a business negotiation!
Forcing a business smile, Ryder went straight to the point. “Our company wants to acquire your hotel. The price is negotiable.”
“No need. My boss said that this hotel isn’t for sale.” Jake’s voice was firm.
Ryder gaped. Everything he had prepared stuck in his throat.
