“I came here to talk business seriously. Since you’re just the assistant, you don’t get to make decisions. Call your real boss. Maybe my offer will tempt her.”
“Do you not understand what I’m saying? You—” Jake was about to snap when his phone buzzed.
He glanced at it, then back at Cassia.
Ryder noticed Jake turning his head and followed his gaze curiously.
From his angle, all he could see was a girl.
She wore light jeans and white sneakers with lettering. She looked young, so he thought she was definitely not the hotel owner.
Jake put the phone down and faced Ryder. “My boss just sent me a message. She wants to talk business with you.”
Ryder blinked. Before he could ask, Jake continued, “She wants to acquire Miller Group.”
Saying that made Jake feel amazing. He’d been fed up with the Millers pushing people around. Now they’d messed with Cassia–they were in trouble!
Acquire Miller Group? Bold move. Even Ned wouldn’t dare to speak that.
Watching Ryder’s face go from pale to red, Jake felt a thrill.
“Don’t go too far!” Ryder finally shouted, unable to contain his anger.
From the start, he could tell Jake wasn’t serious about negotiating. Those words were pure humiliation.
Damn it! It’s just a small–town hotel, and these people had zero respect!
“Mr. Miller, why did you say that? You’re serious about business, and so are we! You want our hotel, and we want yours. No need to get mad if you disagree. Look at me—I’m calm. Don’t throw a tantrum like a kid.
“If you get worked up and your health suffers, fine. But if you faint, I’ll have to call an ambulance. And if the people waiting outside for dinner see you carried out, they might think you got food poisoning!”

Jake rattled on. Ryder’s veins bulged with anger. He nearly proved Jake’s prediction right and risked an ER visit.
“Don’t forget what happened to that veteran actor. Don’t act foolishly!”
Ryder stomped off, leaving a final threat behind.
Jake snorted dismissively. “Hah. The Millers aren’t that impressive after all.”
He immediately turned back to boast to Cassia from behind the couch.
“Cassia, if you hadn’t been here, I honestly wouldn’t know what to do. How was I? Pretty good, right?”

“You talk too much.” Cassia was busy racing in her game.
Jake watched Cassia play.
Her bright red race car zoomed through the track, smashing past every opponent and crossing first.
She was Peak Level 7, 10 stars, and first place server–wide.
Then, Cassia quit the game and set her phone down.
“Why’d you stop?” Jake asked.
He hadn’t had enough of watching her in the game.
“It’s boring.” Cassia stretched.
Fine. Jake would never understand her mindset.
Cassia slipped her hands into her pockets and got up, heading for the hotel entrance.
Just as she reached the reception, Draven came in, looking rattled.
Before she could speak, he beat her to it. “The Millers came by?”
Cassia leaned lazily on the counter. “Yeah, they did.”
“They…”
She could see the worry on Draven’s face.

It was natural. After all, the Millers and the Greys were evenly matched in power.

“The Miller heir tried to buy The Lennox. I said no. He’s probably already on his Vrastin,” Cassia said it like it was nothing.
