Chapter 22 Birthday Party Invitation
A moment later, the salesgirl came back looking uncasy and embarrassed.
“What’s wrong? The card didn’t go through?” Zoe asked.

Inside, she was relieved it wasn’t her swiping it. Otherwise, she’d be the one getting embarrassed.

The salesgirl shook her head, then carefully handed the card and receipt back to Cassia. Her face was red as she said, “I’m so sorry, ma’am. I didn’t realize who you are. Please forgive me.”
Zoe’s face changed instantly. She muttered, “I apologize for not receiving you properly.”
Cassia gave a small, calm smile. “Next time, try not to judge customers by their appearances.”
That line hit like a slap. Both salesgirls‘ faces turned red with shame. They felt the sting of embarrassment burning across their cheeks.
The sisters had expected a joke, not a shock.
They thought Cassia would make a fool of herself, but now they were the ones embarrassed. Cassia could actually afford the diamond bracelet, and that fact made their teeth grind with jealousy.
Just then, Geneva walked in from outside. She’d gone to the restroom earlier, then stopped to try on a nice jacket she liked. Geneva ended up buying it before returning.
“Girls, did you find anything you like?” Geneva asked cheerfully.
“Hmph, nothing worth buying. Let’s go,” Danica said, her voice tight with embarrassment.
She was too angry and awkward to buy anything now. No matter what she picked, nothing could outshine Cassia’s diamond bracelet. Buying something cheaper would only make her look worse.
Better to wait and come back another time.
Geneva blinked, confused. She thought Danica was upset because she’d taken too long.
“Sweetheart, I’m so sorry. Mommy’s late. What did you like? I’ll pay for it,” Geneva apologized softly, trying to make up for it.
“Forget it. Let’s go home.” Danica’s tone was cold. As she turned to leave, she threw Cassia a sharp, angry glare.
Geneva watched as Danica grabbed Brie’s arm and stormed out. Then she turned to Cassia with a gentle smile. “Cassia, darling, what about you? What do you want? Mommy will buy it for you.”
She still carried the guilt of never doing enough for this daughter.
The whole trip was meant to be for her. Geneva wanted to buy her new clothes and spend time together.
Cassia shook her head. “No need, I already bought what I wanted.”

She always buying things on impulse. If she liked something, she bought it. She never cared about the price.
Geneva frowned in confusion. But I haven’t even paid yet. Where did she get the money?
Still, when she saw Cassia calmly walking toward the exit, she followed behind, bewildered.
As soon as they stepped out of the store, they ran into Pansy Schuman, who was out shopping with her daughter, Georgia Gill.
“Mrs. Wood! What a coincidence seeing you here!” Pansy said warmly, stepping forward with a smile.
“Yes, quite the coincidence,” Geneva replied politely.
The two actually had some history. Both of them came from old families in Vrastin, where their names still carried weight.
Before she got married, Pansy had been Geneva’s classmate years ago. They had always appeared friendly, but beneath the surface, there was a quiet rivalry. Pansy was competitive–always needing to be better.
Among the high–society socialites of Zrario, that was common.
They compared everything: their children, their handbags, their homes, and even what they ate.
“I’m so glad I ran into you!” Pansy said warmly. “We’re hosting a birthday party for my daughter next weekend–lots of friends and family will be there. You must come with the kids.”
Geneva blinked, caught off guard, then smiled. “Oh, you’re hosting your daughter’s birthday, right?”
Pansy nodded with a smile. “That’s right.”
Geneva sighed softly, her smile tinged with emotion. “They grow up so fast, don’t they?”
“Yes, be sure to come by! Your daughter Brie is in the same class as my Kaleb, right? I haven’t seen that girl in ages,” Pansy said warmly, holding Geneva’s hand.
Geneva nodded with a polite smile.
Of course, she’d go. They weren’t just friends; their families also worked together in business. Keeping in touch was only natural.
Pansy seemed satisfied. She nodded in approval.
In truth, she had always liked Brie. The girl was polite, smart, and well–behaved.
Even though the Woods weren’t as powerful as her family, they were still respectable in Zrario.
The two women chatted a while longer before saying their goodbyes.
When Geneva got home, Danica was sulking on the couch. She looked like someone who’d had a terrible day. Maybe she should’ve checked her horoscope before going out; then she would’ve known to stay home

instead of witnessing Cassia’s little stunt.
Victoria saw her and asked with a smile, “Danica, you’re back already? Did you buy anything?”
“I buy nothing,” Danica muttered, sounding annoyed.
“What’s wrong, sweetheart? Why the long face?” Victoria asked, her voice filled with concern.

“Grandma,” Danica said with a spark of gossip in her eyes, “Cassia bought a diamond bracelet today. A real one. It cost a fortune.”
“What?” Victoria’s eyes widened. “A diamond bracelet? How much was it?” Her voice rose sharply. “That girl has completely lost her mind! Does she think money grows on trees? It must be that all those years in the orphanage made her desperate to show off!”
She didn’t even ask what had really happened. Victoria just went on and on, scolding Cassia without holding back.
