Cassia didn’t soften her words at all. Her voice was cold. “Do you think you deserve to be Sterling’s mom?”
“You–how dare you say that?!” Fiona nearly choked from anger.
She stormed forward, pointing at Cassia as she shouted, “If I don’t deserve it, then who do you think does?”
“At least I can help him get better,” Cassia replied flatly.
It sounded ridiculous. Even foreign psychologists had no solution for Sterling, yet a high school girl claimed she could fix him.
Fiona folded her arms, glanced at Sterling’s room, and then pulled out a key and unlocked the door.
The key turned with a sharp click.
Inside, Sterling’s frightened sobs immediately echoed out.
“Don’t…”
Cassia frowned deeply.
“See?” Fiona showed no concern for his stress reaction. If anything, she looked smug.
“Right now, anyone knocking on his door will make him collapse. If you can get him to walk out calmly, then I’ll believe you can cure him.”
She was confident in that challenge. After everything that just happened, both she and Ethan believed it was impossible.
Cassia had her own way of knocking–two light taps with her foot against the door.
Peter had told them about it before, and they’d tried imitating it, but Sterling never came
out.
It was strange. Cassia could do it like magic, while no one else could.
But now things were different. With Sterling’s autism worsening, Cassia might not be able to get him out.

If Sterling hadn’t gotten worse, and if Peter hadnt listened to therapists who said staying with his parents might help, Fiona and Gary wouldn’t have locked him in.
Fiona only saw Sterling as a burden. Why raise a useless child? It’d be easier if he just vanished.
Cassia said she could heal him, right? Fine. Let her try Let’s see what she can do.
Fiona leaned against the wall with her arms crossed, waiting to enjoy the show.
Ethan watched Cassia nervously.
Fiona was clearly mocking Cassia.
If Cassia failed, she’d feel embarrassed and probably never come back.
Then he really would be separated from her forever.
Ethan thought about that “never marry” promise he’d joked about in front of his friends. Even as a joke, it still hurt a little.
By all rights, he should be siding with his mother. But secretly, he found himself hoping Cassia could get his brother out, even if the odds weren’t great.
Cassia stayed calm, hands tucked in her pockets. She lifted her foot and tapped on Sterling’s door twice–just like always.
There was no response.
“Tsk, you think this is the orphanage?” Fiona sneered.
Ethan sighed.
But the next second, Fiona’s smile froze.
The door creaked open.
She stiffened and glanced over, spotting Sterling stepping out with his suitcase.
Seeing him like that made Fiona’s head ache.
Sterling had been waiting for this day for a long time.
Tears still streaked his face, but his eyes were bright with hope as he rolled his suitcase toward Cassia.
“Let’s go,” Sterling said, his eyes sparkling.

Cassia could see exactly what he wanted. Right now, he just wanted to get to Dunstino Bay and move into his place.
