Aspen led Brie and Danica up the stone steps, watching Cassia and Draven walking ahead of them, their figures slowly drawing farther away.
Eventually, his gaze settled on Draven.
Just now, he realized Randy had been deliberately opening a back door for those two.
Earlier, when he’d hinted to Randy to bend the rules, Randy had refused, claiming Westhill Residence treated everyone the same.
Yet now, right in front of all those people, Randy was blatantly turning a blind eye.
That man had to be someone important–or he was very close to Henry.
“Brie, I heard you call out to him earlier. You know who he is?”
Aspen was certain that man’s identity wasn’t as simple as it seemed.
If nothing else, the air of restrained nobility around him alone made it obvious he wasn’t ordinary.
Unless, of course, he was putting on an act.
“He’s pretty close with Cassia,” Brie said carefully
She didn’t dare call him Cassia’s boyfriend again not after nearly slapping herself in the face with that assumption.
“She’s close with some strange man?” Aspen frowned. He knew his eldest sister could be reckless, but he hadn’t realized she was this reckless.
“I didn’t expect him to be a professional chess player either, ranked well beyond master level,” Brie said. “I’ve seen the car he drives–it’s just an ordinary Volkswagen. But our principal treats him with total respect.”
“Yeah. Mr. Bell and Mr. Burton were exchanging looks and hand signals like they were terrified of offending him,” Danica chimed in.
Drives a Volkswagen … yet the principal treats him like royalty?

Randy stayed waiting at the foot of the mountain, glancing at his phone every so often.
Still not here?
Growing impatient, Randy finally sent a message
When his master had invited that special guest, he’d asked Randy to first add her on WhatsApp and then extend the invitation through him.
“Have you arrived yet?”
Ding-
The WhatsApp notification chime sounded.
Cassia pulled her phone from her pocket, glanced at the screen, then turned to look down the slope at Randy.
She arched a brow and tapped out a reply.
“The sunshine’s pretty good today.”
Huh?
Randy froze for a second, then tilted his head back to look at the blazing sun overhead.
It was a little blinding.
What the heck is that supposed to mean?
Cassia’s lips curved, amused.
You can stand there and get some extra sun for a whil
Cassia slipped her phone back into her pocket and walked into the manor alongside Draven,
The manor was lively. Many guests were playing chess in pairs in the courtyard, while others stood around watching the matches.
“I’ve got something to take care of. I’ll step out for a bit,” Draven said, looking at Cassia.
“Suit yourself.” Cassia found a pavilion, sat down and calmly poured herself a glass of water.

Draven headed straight for one of the manor’s inner rooms.
Inside sat an elderly man in a dark navy long coat.

A chessboard lay set up on the low table before him, black and white chess pieces already arranged. He held a chess manual in his hands, deep in study.
“Mr. Sawyer.” Draven stopped and called out to the old man.
“So, you showed up, kid? I can’t play with you today,” Henry said, placing chess pieces lightly on the board as he spoke.
Though already well advanced in years, Henry was sharp–eyed and energetic, his body still remarkably robust.
Draven took the seat opposite him and drawled, unhurried, “Resting up so you’ll be at full strength for your showdown with that legendary player?”
Henry’s fingers paused ever so slightly around the piece he was holding.
Draven’s sharp, restrained gaze swept over that hand.
Henry clearly knew he’d come for that legendary player, yet still refused to introduce them.
“She only agreed to see you?” Draven asked, hazarding a guess.
“You little fox, if you’ve already guessed it that accurately, what are you still doing here?” Henry started shooing him away. “Out. If she shows up and sees you here, she’ll think I broke my word.”
He’d promised her there would be no outsiders around when she played.
Draven was a chess enthusiast himself. Back in Vrastin, whenever he was bored, he’d challenge top players across the city for fun. After coming to Zrario, of course, he’d planned to visit the Ultimate Grandmaster, Henry.
Henry was warm and hospitable. After playing Draven over and over those past few days, he’d grown increasingly convinced that this young man, like the mysterious player who’d once defeated him, was a once–in–a–generation pponent.
After several rounds, the two of them traded insights on chess, and gradually, they’d become friends.
Draven naturally knew about that legendary player as well. He’d been wanting to play her for ages but had never been able to track her down.
Just as elusive as a certain miracle doctor.

Thinking of her, the corner of Draven’s mouth curved up without him noticing, and Henry’s brows twitched when he saw it.
Seven and Axel were used to this public display of affection by now; clearly, Draven had that particular someone on his mind again.
A few days ago, Draven had received Henry’s invitation to this chess gathering and had been debating whether to attend–until he learned that the old man had also invited that player, and she’d actually accepted. Then, Draven agreed on the spot.
Draven made no move to leave now, his expression completely relaxed.
“I saw Randy waiting at the foot of the mountain earlier. If he’s still down there, she probably won’t show for a while.”
“She’s still not here?” Henry sounded a little anxious.
Draven lifted the wine glass from the table, savoring it slowly. “The wine in here is much better than the stuff out there.”
“You didn’t come in here just for wine, did you?” Henry said as he continued placing chess pieces on the board.
