Jake had always hated the Millers‘ style. Hearing Cassia say that made his blood surge.
“Got it! With Boss saying the word, I’m going to crush them hard!”
Cassia didn’t have the time–or the interest–to ask what Jake planned to do or how he’d do it.
The Millers‘ nonsense had nothing to do with her.
Bottom line: she wouldn’t bother anyone unless they bothered her first. But if the Millers insisted on picking a fight, she wouldn’t swallow it in silence.
Meanwhile, on the other side of Zrario.
Ryder’s family sat down for dinner, talking about The Lennox.
“That old man and Colt are both arrogant, thinking if others can’t do it, they somehow can. I told them the owner of The Lennox would never sell, and none of them believed me. I’ll bet Grandpa gets the door slammed in his face this time.”
Ryder desperately wanted to see Daren get publicly humiliated. Last time, when Ryder couldn’t close the deal, everyone called him useless.
Then, Colt swaggered in with big money, failed too, and even teamed up with their father to pull dirty tricks–only for The Lennox to stay standing, and they ran smack into a brick wall themselves.
Thinking of that, Ryder happily picked up a piece of grilled fish and ate it.
First, Colt got slapped in the face. Daren–he figured he was next.
“You’re that sure The Lennox will reject Grandpa” Ryder’s wife asked, puzzled.
“I spoke with the owner’s assistant last time. I may not have many talents, but I can read people. I could tell then–they’ll never agree.”
His wife nodded in agreement.
“Still, that owner is impressive. No obvious backing, yet they can stand up to the Millers.”
Ryder thought so, too. Any normal business owner would panic the moment they heard the
words “the Millers.”
To curry favor with the old man, he’d secretly investigated The Lennox, trying to uncover the

real boss behind it. But every time he reached a crucial step, the trail would mysteriously snap–like an invisible hand was blocking him.
“Creepy as hell…”
Ryder muttered while picking at his food.
Back at Wood Manor, the dinner ended, and Cassia stood up to return to Dunstino Bay.
Vance didn’t want Cassia to leave–she was the second person in their family with a real chance of entering Henry’s circle.
“Cassia, come back home. I’ll allow you to bring that autistic kid to live here. Living at home saves money and hassle–no need to waste cash renting outside,” Vance said, forcing his tone
stern.
“No.” Cassia refused. She was already at the entryway, changing her shoes.
“Th–then… I’ll hire a caretaker for Sterling, and you come live at home.”
Cassia laughed coldly inside as she calmly tied her laces.
He’d just said there was “no need to spend money,” and seconds later, he was offering to hire help?
“No need.” With that, Cassia opened the door and walked out.
That girl was unbelievably disobedient!
Geneva walked over, worried. “Cassia and that child have been living out for over a week and haven’t come back…”
“She’s stubborn, I’ll give her that,” Vance snarled, staring at Cassia’s back.
“Should I go bring them back? If I go personally Cassia should…”
“No rush.” Vance sneered. “She’s too headstrong this is the perfect time to blunt her edge. I want her to come back with Sterling, crying and begging on her knees. Then, we’ll see if she dares oppose us again.”
Life returned to a quiet, steady rhythm.
These days, Cassia either went to treat Sterling of stayed in her room gaming.

Easthedge House was a perfect spot for alcohol and chess. Henry was a devoted wine lover, so whenever he had a free afternoon, he’d stop by to talk vintages and terroir with the owner, then play a few games on the side. Neither pleasure interfered with the other.
The owner was about Henry’s age and had known him since they were young.
“Taste it, and tell me, has my touch with the bottle improved?” The owner was Sutton Clark, usually addressed respectfully as “Mr. Clark.”
Henry took the glass and sipped.
“Still better than anyone’s, you old fossil. Outside the board, they’re hopeless–especially when it comes to wine. Watching them pour is downright painful.”
Standing to the side, Randy screamed internally If my pouring is that awful, then why do you keep making me do it? I’ve already admitted I’ve got no fee for wine…
And honestly—are you sure you’re not talking about yourself? Outside of chess, your pours aren’t any better than mine.
And seriously–why am I only finding out now that you’ve been quietly drinking and playing chess with a legendary player all this time?
“Oof…” Sutton let out a long sigh, his face creasing with age. “There was once someone whose wine I tasted. To this day, I haven’t forgotten it. But I doubt I’ll ever get to drink it again.”
