Alfen was still angry at Brie and Danica. Those two had not told their family in time. If they had, the adults could have convinced Cassia to join the volleyball training camp earlier. Because of that delay, the country lost a future star outside hitter.
During the holiday, Alfen kept thinking about Cassia. The more he thought about it, the angrier he became.
At first, he was not that upset. But when he saw Brie and Danica acting like they had done nothing wrong, he could not hold it in anymore. As a teacher, he felt he needed to step in and teach them a proper lesson for their homeroom teacher.
So, Alfen suddenly showed up in the honors class. The students were all confused when they saw him walk in.
They were seniors. They did not even have PE class anymore. So why was the PE coach here? While everyone was still wondering, Alfen stopped right in front of Brie and Danica.
“Mr. Hoge, are you looking for us?” Brie asked. Both girls looked at him, completely lost. On his face, it was clear that Alfen was upset.
Alfen kept his face dark, forcing himself to hold back his anger. “I want to ask you something. Did you tell your parents about Cassia’s situation or not?”
What? What situation?
Brie and Danica looked at each other, totally confused.
They had really forgotten.
Alfen felt even angrier. Their parents must have already talked to them, but they still don’t realize what they did wrong. If they were truly sorry, how could they forget something this important?
“Last year, during winter camp,” Alfen said slowly, “I told you to ask your families to help persuade Cassia to join the volleyball training camp.”
Brie and Danica suddenly remembered.
Oh. That thing. After the whole semester break, they had completely forgotten about it. They never expected Alfen to remember it so clearly.
“We… we told them,” Brie and Danica answered at the same time, but their voices were weak.

He asked coldly, “Why are you lying?”

The classroom fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Then–boom. The room exploded with whispers.
Brie lied?
No way.
Danica lying was already shocking enough. But Brie? The sweet, innocent campus belle?
It sounded unbelievable. But looking at Alfen’s face, red with anger, it seemed legit.
And really, why would a teacher make up something like this just to scold two students?
So, it means this whole thing was true?
Danica and Brie felt like every cell in their bodies was shaking in fear.
What was done was done; why was Mr. Hoge being so petty? Why bring it up again in front of so many teachers and students?
Kaleb looked at Brie with a dark, steady gaze.
Alfen was talking about last year’s winter camp, wasn’t he?
That day, Alfen had clearly told Brie and Danica to go home and tell their parents about Cassia. Kaleb had heard it himself.
They didn’t tell their family?
Not telling them wasn’t the end of the world. Forgetting could happen too. It had been a long time. Why dig it up now?
That wasn’t the real issue. The real problem was that Brie had lied.
And putting the lie aside, just looking at how the two sisters reacted earlier-
Even someone like him, who had nothing to do with Cassia, still remembered the incident. Yet they clearly didn’t.
That meant they never thought they were wrong They never truly cared about Cassia.
Or maybe, deep down, they never saw Cassia as their sister at all.

Brie grew panicked; her eyes turned red.
Danica, as usual, lowered her head the moment he faced an adult and said nothing.
Useless! Where is that spoiled, bossy attitude you used to have? Where did it go?
