The next morning.
Harold gathered all the teachers for a meeting to discuss how the school would arrange the Spring Gala.
During the break, students crowded together, chatting excitedly. Almost every conversation was about the Spring Gala.
Zrario High had a long–standing tradition. Every year on New Year’s Eve, school was canceled during the day. In the evening, the school held a large celebration with fireworks, booths, and activities. Students were used to calling it the Spring Gala.
“It’ll probably be the same this year,” Sacha said when she saw Cassia wake up.
“In past years, it was super lively, like a carnival,” Rosalie added, her eyes bright. “There are games everywhere and tons of food. Students can even bring family or friends from outside. I’m planning to bring my parents.”
“Cassia, who do you want to go with?” Sacha asked.
“By myself,” Cassia answered without hesitation.
She was used to being independent. She had never really thought about spending holidays with someone else.
In the past, she always spent festivals alone.
Only recently had there been one special person who appeared more often in her thoughts.
“Huh? New Year’s is about being together,” Sacha said. “If you don’t spend it with someone important, that’s such a shame.” As much as they admired Cassia’s strength and independence, Sacha and Rosalie also felt a little sorry for her.
Someone important?
Suddenly, without warning, Draven’s face appeared in Cassia’s mind.
“If I brought him,” Cassia muttered while resting her chin on her hand, “it might actually be fun.”
“Him? Who?” Sacha and Rosalie asked at the same time.

Their eyes lit up.
Cassia had never once mentioned wanting to bring anyone before.
“Um… a… close… friend,” Cassia said after a short pause.
Sacha and Rosalie stared at her in shock.
Did those words really come from Cassia?
They had never heard her describe anyone as a close friend.”
Usually, she just said, “a classmate I get along with.”

For someone like Cassia to say “a close friend,” the person had to be special. The two of them instantly grew curious.
Was it a guy or a girl? Older or younger? Tall or short? Someone from school or from outside?
Or could it be that person from that night?
Just as their thoughts started running wild, the class bell rang.
Ding–ding–ding.
Class began.
This period was homeroom. After finishing the teachers‘ meeting, Lilian returned to the classroom and held a short class meeting.
“Class, New Year’s is coming up again,” Lilian announced. “On New Year’s Eve, the whole school will be off. And two weeks later, the school will hold a carnival on the field.”
The moment she finished speaking, the classroom burst into cheers.
Lilian raised her hand and pressed it down twice signaling for everyone to quiet down.
“Quiet. Earlier, Harold met with the homeroom cachers. He said that in past years, the evening event was always just games or eating. Nothing new.”
The students felt relieved. Harold finally noticed
“So this year,” Lilian continued, “the Spring Gala will include a stage performance.”
“Oh!”

They had been hoping for something fun and new. Instead, it was just one more talent show.
It sounded a bit lame. Still, it was better than repeating the same games and snacks every
year.
“This talent show will be similar to the Spring Gala,” Lilian said. “Each class must prepare at least one performance.” After speaking, she looked straight at Cassia.
Now that she had Cassia, she no longer worried about being outshined by Selena.
Danica noticed the eager look on Lilian’s face. It made her furious. Her teeth clenched as she secretly planned how to stir up trouble for Cassia during the carnival.
“Ms. Reed, last time it was piano. Maybe we should change to something different this time?” A student raised a hand.
The moment those words came out, many students agreed. “Yeah, change it.”
“If it’s piano again, that’s boring.”
“How about singing?”
When Danica heard the word “singing,” her eyes darted around, and an idea clicked into place.
She quickly raised her hand. “Ms. Reed! Ms. Reed! Cassia can sing! And she sings really well!”
“She can sing?” Lilian’s eyes brightened.
“Yes,” Danica said, standing up. She glanced at Cassia, then confidently turned back to Lilian. “She hums at home all the time. Brie and I both think she sounds great.”
“Right, Cassia?” Danica added with a friendly–looking smile.
Cassia glanced coolly at Danica.
She could sing, and she sang very beautifully. But she had never hummed at home. How could Danica and Brie have ever heard her sing
