Ethan scratched the back of his head and looked around again. The girl was still nowhere in sight.
In the end, he stopped two girls who were walking toward him.
“Hmm, excuse me,” he asked politely. “Did you see a really, really pretty girl walk past here?”
The girls looked at each other.
Wow, this guy is way too handsome.
Ethan and Sterling were twin brothers and looked almost exactly alike.
Sterling was still young and hadn’t fully grown yet, but his chubby, round face already had a soft and gentle look. Ethan was the same–fresh and sweet.
He had a kind of cuteness that didn’t take away from his boyish charm. The kind that made people want to pull him into a hug.
Especially when he spoke. A small canine tooth showed when he smiled; paired with his babyish face, it completely melted their hearts.
Ethan looked at the girls, confused.
I’m just asking a question. Why are they staring at me like that? Like I’m Little Red Riding Hood and they’re the Big Bad Wolf.
“Are you from our school?” one of the girls finally asked. “Are you looking for someone?”
Ethan shook his head, followed by a nod.
His reaction left both girls puzzled.
“I’m looking for someone,” Ethan said honestly, but she’s not from your school.”
“Not from our school?”
The girls looked disappointed but quickly asked “Is she from Redwood High or Hawthorne High?”
Those two schools were both nearby.
Ethan twitched at the corner of his eye.

“If you haven’t seen her, that’s fine,” he said, turning to leave. He still had to find his girl. He didn’t have time to chat.
When the cute guy was about to go, the girls moved together and blocked his way.
“Wait! Who are you looking for?”
“Well … a really pretty girl,” Ethan said helplessly. “About this tall. Her hair isn’t very long, about here.” He gestured with his hand. “Her last name is Wood…”
Oh no! I got nervous again and forgot her first name.
“Really pretty? Last name Wood?” One girl guessed.
Just then, Danica and Brie walked past on the tree–lined path nearby.
“Is it her?” the girl asked, pointing at Brie.
Ethan followed her finger and looked over.
Brie, who was suddenly pointed at, heard the voice and turned her head.
When she saw Ethan’s handsome and adorable face, her eyes lit up at once.
So did Danica’s.
Most girls had no defense against cute things, and someone like Ethan was on an entirely different level.
They had seen Sterling before during a volunteer visit to an orphanage, but they had never been to the Zimmer Residence. This was their first time meeting Ethan.
“Wow! That boy doesn’t look like he’s from our school,” Danica said, her eyes lighting up as she stared at Ethan. “I’ve never heard of anyone in any grade or class who’s this cute!”
Brie laughed and teased her. “Isn’t he exactly your type?”
“Brie, what are you talking about?” Danica tugged on Brie’s arm, but her eyes stayed locked on Ethan. The more she looked, the more her heartbeats grew out of control.
“Don’t tell me you don’t like him,” Brie joked. “If you don’t, I’m going to make a move.”
“You already have Kaleb. What? Are you trying to date two guys at once?” Danica said dramatically.

“Brie, I never thought you were that kind of person! Don’t talk nonsense. Kaleb and I are not like that!” Even though Danica was clearly joking Brie still felt a flash of panic, like her secret. had almost been exposed.
