Zach rushed back to his hotel room and grabbed the lyrics right away. He couldn’t wait to practice. He knew these two songs were going to blow up again.
Before Cassia went home, she drove her car to Jake’s place and told him to handle the aftermath.
Then, Jake drove her home.
On the way, Jake finally asked in confusion, “Boss, what happened: How did you end up in a crash?”
If it were anyone else, he wouldn’t think much. But this was Cassia.
She was a professional car racer. How could she make such a rookie mistake?
This had to be humiliating for her.
Cassia shot him a cold look. Wrong question at the wrong time.
“Sorry, sorry. Didn’t mean to bring up something that upset you,” Jake said with a grin that didn’t sound sorry at all.
“An accident,” Cassia said. That was all she could say. If that Rolls–Royce hadn’t drifted over, she never would’ve hit anything. She could’ve avoided the van.
“I figured,” Jake muttered, puckering his lips.
When Cassia finally walked into her house, everyone was already gathered in the living room.
Danica was talking with big, dramatic gestures, making everyone laugh. Brie was chiming in. The whole room felt warm and lively.
But the second Cassia stepped in, the mood snapped.
The laughter cut off. Every pair of eyes turned to her, sharp as arrows.
Victoria frowned and said coldly, “You’re a young woman. Running around outside every day–how is that proper?”
Cassia stood at the entryway and answered flatly, “I had things to do.”
Short. Direct. No extra words.
“Outrageous! So young and already talking back to your elder,” Victoria snapped. She always acted like the elder of the house, and no one dared challenge her, not even Vance.
Cassia was exhausted. She just wanted to go to her room and sleep, but Victoria wasn’t done.
Fine. Silence it was.
When Cassia said nothing, Victoria thought her scolding had worked, so she kept going. “When you go

Cassia stood still, her face blank.

“Hmph. Hopeless. Don’t even know who she takes after. Always pulling a long face,” Victoria grumbled, still not satisfied.
Geneva stepped out of her room and saw Cassia standing in the hallway. She had heard Victoria’s harsh scolding, and her heart ached for her daughter. Cassia had gone through so much before she came home. but she received no warmth at all.
Geneva pressed her lips together, forced a smile, and walked toward Cassia.
She began fussing over her, asking gentle questions, giving her a way to escape the le
Victoria watched and scoffed in contempt, “Being too soft only spoils your
kids.”
Geneva acted like she didn’t hear a thing.
After Cassia went back to her room, Danica let out a long sigh. Then she said lazily, “We’ll probably have to help Cassia find another school soon. She made a bet with the teacher. If she ranks last in the City Finals, she drops out.”
Vance sat nearby with his eyes closed. Lately, work had been driving him crazy. He felt like a balloon ready to burst from the slightest poke.
When he heard Danica’s words, his eyes snapped open. He shot up, furious. “She did what? She actually made a bet with her teacher?”
What a troublemaker! This girl is going to be the end of me.
That girl–did she have no sense at all? Did she even know her limits?
“Yep. The whole class heard it. So she’s definitely dropping out. Last time she scored zero on her essay.” Danica spoke with dramatic excitement, unable to hide the thrill in her voice.
Vance felt his blood pressure shoot straight to the ceiling.
Good grief, what did I do to deserve this?
Cassia felt like the biggest headache of his life.
