Everyone had been focused on Danica earlier, so no one noticed Cassia’s hand.

When she held Tyne down in the hotel room, she used her left hand to grab Tyne’s neck. Tyne had gone wild, scratching and clawing at her hand.

Draven held Cassia’s hand and guided her into his black luxury car.

“Does it hurt?” he asked. He set her hand on his lap, cleaned it with iodine, grabbed a tube of ointment from the first–aid kit, and gently rubbed it onto her skin.

The cool ointment felt soothing against her skin.

“It’s okay.”

“You can tell me if it hurts.”

Cassia tilted her head and watched him.

Draven was very focused while applying the ointment, and she was just as focused watching him.

A few minutes later, he smiled at her.

“All done.”

“Thanks,” Cassia said, looking at her hand. The swelling was already going down.

“Hands this pretty shouldn’t have scars,” Draven said.

The medicine was already on, but he was still holding her hand.

Cassia didn’t pull away and just smiled.

The doctor shook his head. “It’s clear the patient was badly traumatized. She has developed severe depression.”

Everyone’s already–worried faces tightened even more.

The doctor went on, “She can’t handle seeing too many people right now. But you can leave someone she trusts and feels safe with. Try talking to her. The most important thing is to keep her calm.”

Geneva looked at Vance and Aspen.

“You two should step out.”

Aspen took a step toward Danica, but as soon as Danica sensed him closing in, she started shaking even harder. She whispered, her voice barely audible, “Don’t…”

The room fell silent.

Aspen sighed and backed off. He followed Vance out of the ward and closed the door.

Luckily, the hospital room had one–way glass, so they could watch her from the hallway without her seeing them.

“Feeling a little better?” Geneva asked.

Now that it was just the two of them in the room, Danica relaxed just a little.

Geneva reached out to touch her face, but Danica flinched back on reflex.
