Chapter 385 The Shocking Truth
Oh Geneva asked. “What was Cassia doing there?”
Vance did not answer her directly. He shot back instead, “Guess what I saw at Easthedge House.
“What?” Geneva asked.
“I saw Cassia playing chess with Mr. Sawyer and Cassia won!”
“What?!”
Vance’s shout startled Geneva. Victoria, who was watching TV on the couch, jumped at hf sudden raised
voice.
At that moment, Brie came home from school. She had just pushed the door open when she heard her father yelling such shocking news.
“Dad? Y–you’re not joking, right?” Brie said in disbelief. “You saw Cassia playing chess with Mr. Sawyer? And she won?!”
Everyone stared at Vance’s face. He did not look like he was lying.
Vance was even standing there with one foot lifted, having forgotten to change into his slippers.
“Cassia is the legendary player who shook the entire chess world two years ago!”
That sentence hit all of them like a bolt of lightning.
“C–Cassia is that the legendary player from two years ago?” Victoria repeated. She was still frozen in shock, her mouth hanging open as if her jaw might drop any second.
Legendary player?!
Brie knew that title all too well.
Earlier this year, during the gathering that Henry suddenly hosted, Aspen had told her that Henry’s real goal was to find the legendary player.
Two years ago, when Brie was a freshman in high school and had just started learning chess, she often heard teachers at the chess club talking about that famous legendary player in small groups.
To her, the legendary player was like a god. Someone completely out of her reach.
Even though Brie had some talent in chess, compared to truly gifted geniuses, she knew she was on a totally different level.
And now someone was telling her that this godlike figure was Cassia, the same Cassia she had always looked down on.
1/3 All of a sudden, Brie remembered something. Not long ago, at the Westhill Residence gathering, Cassia

Back then, with so many people present, Brie, Danica, and Aspen had all refused to believe her. They thought Cassia was being ridiculous and showed off without knowing her limits. They morked and humiliated her nonstop.
Thinking about it now, it felt painfully ridiculous.
The gap between what she believed and the truth was too big. No matter how she tried, Brie just could not accept it.
Geneva, however, was overjoyed.
She had known it all along. Her daughter was never useless. Her daughter was someone the whole world admired.
“I have to tell Danica the good news!” Geneva said with a wide smile. She bounced happily toward Danica’s small bedroom.
Vance and Brie looked at each other and weren’t sure what to speak.
Victoria stood there with her mouth open. It stayed that way for a long time.
Vance turned to look at Victoria and Brie.
“I want Cassia to come home.”
The three of them stared at each other in silence for a long while.
What could they even say? Things with Cassia were already this bad and he wants her to come back?
Yeah, right. Would she ever agree to that?
“Give me an idea,” Vance said weakly. “Anything. Just say it.”
Victoria still hadn’t fully recovered. She looked confused and a little angry.
Cassia was clearly that good at chess. So why hadn’t she ever said anything?
Wait!
Victoria suddenly remembered something.
At a family gathering before, after dinner, Cassia had played chess with Brie and Danica. Even back then, Cassia had shown shocking talent. But she hadn’t taken it seriously at all.
And honestly, with the way Cassia usually acted, how could anyone connect her to a legendary player?
Brie spoke up to comfort Vance. “Don’t worry, Dad. As long as Cassia’s legal residence is still registered with our family, she’ll come back someday.”
