Chapter 49 The One Caught His Eyes
Kaleb let out a small laugh. “Yeah, Georgia loves this kind of setup.”
His voice was warm and full of affection.
Brie felt a sting of envy. Georgia really was born with a silver spoon.
The two of them stood there chatting and smiling.

Honestly, if someone walked in right now, they might mistake it for their engagement party. They looked that good together.
Cassia, however, already regretted coming. This was a mistake.
A big, boring mistake.
She blamed herself for being soft–hearted. She should’ve just told Geneva no.
Geneva spotted Pansy across the room and went over to greet her.
Before leaving, she whispered a reminder for Cassia to be careful.
Cassia glanced around the ballroom. The place was packed, buzzing with guests.
Her stomach growled. She hadn’t eaten much for breakfast.
Not far away, a long table was filled with food, and plenty of people were already eating. She walked over at an unhurried pace.
Kaleb was still talking with Brie when a slim figure drifted into his line of sight.
His heart started to race. He only saw her from the side, but that was enough. The girl’s refined face, calm expression, and quiet confidence were unforgettable.
Kaleb felt a strong urge to walk over and introduce himself.
Because of that, his attention slipped, and Brie noticed.
She followed his gaze toward the food area. Brie thought he was hungry, but then she saw a familiar silhouette.
Wasn’t that Cassia?

couldn’t hide her beauty.
Brie’s chest tightened when she saw that Kaleb couldn’t look away. Her lips pressed together, and her hands curled into small fists. A wave of jealousy churned inside her.
Why?
Why did Cassia have to fight her for everything?
Brie refused to accept it.
She exhaled in a slow breath, then spoke in a soft, sweet voice.
“Kaleb, let’s go grab something to eat. I didn’t have much for breakfast.”
She knew he wanted to go over there. Maybe he just didn’t want to leave her behind. So why not give him an excuse?
“Sure, let’s go,” Kaleb answered, a spark of excitement in his eyes.
Brie froze for half a second. Her smile wavered. A quiet sadness washed over her.
Brie and Kaleb walked toward the dining area, but Brie suddenly stopped. She whispered, almost to herself, “Cassia is here too.”
Her voice carried surprise.
“Cassia? Cassia Wood?” Kaleb repeated, immediately stopping as well.
“Yes, the Cassia from the advanced class.” By now, everyone knew that name.
Kaleb definitely did.
He felt a flicker of curiosity. Why would Cassia be here?
His family didn’t have any connection with her, or did they? And her last name was Wood. Could it be?
Brie noticed his confused look and quickly explained, “Sorry, I should’ve told you. Cassia is my sister. She went missing when she was little and grew up in an orphanage. We only found her a few months ago. She grew up in a small rural town, so she’s a bit rough around the edges.”
She put it subtly, but anyone could hear the meaning underneath. A girl who grew up in a backwater town, walking straight to the food table the moment she arrived. Cassia looked like

she’d never seen a proper buffet before.
Kaleb felt like someone dumped cold water on him. He cooled off in a second.
So that was the country girl everyone talked about.
