Sacha looked at Rosalie and chimed in, “Your family runs a plantation? I thought your dad was some big CEO of a major company.”

Rosalie said, “When my dad was in his 20s, he was selling fruit at a market stall. That’s when he met my mom. But my mom was the daughter of one of the world’s top 500 companies, the Laurents. Her family didn’t approve of her being with a poor guy from the countryside, so she gave my dad his first startup money. For her, he decided to start from scratch with a plantation.”

As she spoke, determination showed in her eyes.

The stretched Lincoln passed through the Chesthale toll booth.

The driver took out two dollars, rolled down the window, and handed it over.

The toll booth worker yawned lazily and reached out to take the money, but then he glance through the window and saw Cassia sitting in the 1 ́ck seat.

He instantly woke up, rubbed his eyes, and stared into the car with wide eyes.

He was sure he wasn’t mistaken.

“No charge. You can go,” the worker said, waving his hand and lifting the barrier to let them pass for free.

“Huh?” The driver held out the money, looking confused.

Usually, tolls were only waived during holidays, but today wasn’t a holiday.

“Go on,” the worker repeated, waving again when he saw the driver’s confusion.

The driver rolled up the window and drove the Lincoln through the toll.

Sacha and Rosalie turned to look back.

The car behind them was stopped, and its driver had to pay two dollars before being allowed through.

“Hey, Charlie. Every other car paid two dollars at the toll. Why didn’t we?” Rosalie asked.

The driver, Charlie, shrugged, just as puzzled.

He thought back. The worker had clearly intended to collect the money, but after looking into the car for a while, he let them without charging.
