The two of them arrived at the warehouse exterior, and Cassia could see the entire building ablaze with light from inside.
Richard pushed open the massive warehouse doors.
What greeted them was row after row of blue industrial shelving, every shelf packed tight with black fruit crates, each one loaded with a different variety of fruit.
Everything was meticulously categorized and labeled–clean, organized, almost like walking through a high–end supermarket. If you wanted a specific fruit, you just went to the right section.
Each zone had its own dedicated crew handling packing, sorting, and quality control.
Beyond what sat on the shelves, some sections had overflow stock piled on the floor–fruit that hadn’t been boxed up yet.
The whole operation looked like something out of a publicly traded company.
Every employee who spotted Richard immediately stood and bowed respectfully.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Scott!”
As for the young girl trailing behind the boss? That was none of their business.
Probably a new secretary, they figured.
Not a very professional one, though–no business attire, no notepad, no pen. She’d just walked in wearing a casual outfit like she was on a coffee run.
If their boss weren’t so easygoing, a secretary like that would’ve been fired before the door closed behind her.
Cassia ignored the judgmental looks a few female staffers were shooting her way and swept her gaze across the packing floor.
“Didn’t you already install the Al system? Why a these employees still doing everything by hand?”
“This is the outer zone. The system is deeper inde, and it’s still in its trial phase. Give it three months, and it’ll cover the entire warehous”
Richard led Cassia past the stocked shelving areas, through the rows of crates and pallets, into the wide–open space at the very back of the warehouse.

On a steel–framed platform covering over 10,000 square feet, 300 intelligent sorting robots. were buzzing around, working tirelessly.
Cassia noticed that Richard’s team had pushed the storage shelves several units outward to give the system a more generous footprint.
Besides the central platform and its 300 robots, they’d set up ten supply stations and 130 collection chutes arranged around the perimeter.
From now on, warehouse staff would never again have to run themselves ragged sorting parcels and filling orders all day. All it took was one person manning the central control console and one employee stationed at each supply table to place packaged parcels onto a robot. That was it.
Once a robot received its instructions, it would automatically scan a QR code embedded in the platform floor using its underside camera, calculate the most efficient route, and zip off to deposit the parcel into its designated collection chute.
The result was a massive reduction in physical labor for the staff and a huge boost in sorting speed, which meant they could now handle far more incoming orders than ever before.
“Not bad at all.” Cassia nodded approvingly, then glanced around. “Where’s the control room?”
Cassia scanned the area but didn’t see one.
“Up there.” Richard pointed toward the far wall, bove the platform.
Cassia looked up.
Jutting out from the back wall, about halfway up was a steel–and–concrete structure that Richard had custom–built–a big, bold protrusion reinforced with rebar and industrial glass.
The console that controlled the entire operation sat inside that elevated pod, and from a distance, the whole thing looked like a small island floating in midair.
Two iron staircases had been thoughtfully installed on either side, providing easy access up
and down.
Through the pod’s transparent glass walls, Cassi could see a man in a worker’s uniform seated inside, monitoring the system.
“Impressive. Your team got this entire system up and running in just a few days. That’s fast.”
“Come on, I’ll give you the full tour.”

The man inside had already spotted his boss coming from a mile away and leaped out of his chair, practically vibrating with excitement.
Richard twisted the door handle and walked in, with Cassia right on his heels.
The man rushed to meet them, stood ramrod straight, and bowed a full 90 degrees.
“Mr. Scott!”

“At ease! We’re just here for a look around. Don’t let us interrupt–carry on with your work.”
Richard waved him off with a grin, then clasped his hands behind his back and guided Cassia over to the bank of control monitors.
“Take a look at this.”
Cassia walked up to the glass wall and gazed down at the platform below. From this elevated vantage point, the sight of 300 yellow robots swarming across the steel floor was even more spectacular than it had been from ground level.
“The automated robots have been running since 6 a.m. Go on–guess how many orders we’ve processed in just these few hours.”
He was deliberately dangling the bait, waiting for Cassia to bite.
Cassia could see how eager and proud he was, and she wasn’t about to deflate that energy. She played along. “Definitely more than what we were pulling before the system was installed. I’ll say… a hundred thousand?”
“Nope, too low! Think bigger.”
Richard shook his head, wearing the most mysterious smile he could manage, urging her to guess again.
“Too low? So it’s more than a hundred thousand”
Cassia asked, “Two hundred thousand?”
Richard let out a big laugh. “Ha! Boss, don’t underestimate the machines you had Mr. Teller send over!”
