Chapter 538 If You Even Have the Qualifications
“It wasn’t her! It was my fault! I brought them here to experience catching wild rabb hadn’t, none of this would have happened!” Sacha’s eyes were red, panic rising as Ca about to be taken away by the forest ranger.
Rosalie pulled out her phone and dialed Richard’s number, hoping her dad would st help Cassia.
But the ranger was unmoved, determined to take Cassia.
“Enough. I understand you’re protecting your friend,” the ranger said, voice firm. “But someone with violent, anti–social tendencies doesn’t deserve to be your friend. I also: you not to interfere with my duty. Everyone is responsible for their own actions. She face the consequences herself.”

Her red lips moved deliberately, each word dripping with irony.
“Are
you going to take responsibility for all that?”
Cassia usually wouldn’t bother arguing with a police officer, but this guy was trying to Ic up without even knowing the facts. If she didn’t speak up now, she wouldn’t be herself.
The forest ranger was left dumbfounded by her words, blinking in shock.
“You… how dare you speak to an officer like that! You really are a psycho!”
“I don’t need your judgment,” Cassia shot back, her tone icy. “You’ve already decided I’m before even checking the facts. How did you even pass your certification?”
“I…” The ranger choked, struggling to respond.
Cassia continued, eyes scanning the group, “Ask the others here. When I spoke calmly to what was your attitude toward me?”
“Well said, Cassia!” Seven muttered, wishing the moment allowed applause.
The other girls nodded silently, secretly impressed.
“Exactly! Cassia didn’t mean to kick the rabbit. You’re assuming she did on purpose,” Sacha
added.
“I trust Cassia. If she says the rabbit was playing dead, then it was playing dead! Officer, you must see the truth and not punish an innocent!”
The officer fell silent.
The more he thought about it, the more he realized that maybe he hadn’t handled things qu right.
But this rabbit had no heartbeat. Could it really be playing dead?
He hadn’t completely dismissed the idea of testing whether Cassia was telling the truth; he jus assumed the rabbit was dead, and verifying it would be a waste of time.
Still, it seemed that if he didn’t check, no one would believe him anyway.
“Fine,” he finally said. “You say the rabbit is playing dead? Let’s test it.”
Nathan’s jaw dropped.

Wait, weren’t they supposed to arrest Cassia? Why are they suddenly verifying the rabbit’s status?
Cassia had clearly counted on a slim chance that the rabbit wasn’t truly dead.
But Nathan, raised in the backwater for over seventy years, knew animals.

He was confident that if the rabbit were dead, he’d know.
Verification was pointless, yet seeing her prove it would be satisfying.
“So, how do we test if the rabbit is really dead?” the ranger asked Cassia.
“I already said,” she replied, calm as ever. “Just place it on the ground. After a while, it will recover on its own.”
The officer froze, not at what she said, but at the realization that he had just dismissed her entirely.
As an officer, he hadn’t even taken the citizen’s word seriously.
His own negligence was glaring.
“I–I just… I forgot,” he stammered, face red.
However, his excuse rang hollow to everyone watching.
“The rabbit is already on the ground. Now we just wait?” Rosalie asked, peering at Cassia.
