Chapter 539 Proof of Life
“It needs a completely safe and quiet environment. With all of us crowded around here rabbit won’t wake up for a year,” Cassia said, pointing to the dense bushes not far off.
“Then let’s wait over there.”
Everyone crouched down among the thick foliage.
Minutes ticked by, but the rabbit on the ground didn’t move.
“How much longer?” the forest ranger muttered, fanning himself frantically, clearly losing patience.
Of course, he was impatient. The midday sun was blazing overhead, and the heat was roasti them alive.

“You think this is funny, wasting my time like this?” the officer barked.
He’d already been more patient than anyone deserved.

“I’m being impatient? I…” the ranger pointed to his face, chest tightening in frustration.
“Just wait a little longer.”
A calm, clear voice cut through, instantly extinguishing the officer’s anger.
The officer looked down at Draven.
The man exuded an unmistakable aura of authority that was silent, effortless, and commanding. It was not an order in words, yet it sounded like one.
Strangely, the officer obeyed, crouching down without complaint or resistance.
It was like watching a subject bow naturally before a king.
Seven smacked his lips in admiration, impressed by Draven’s commanding presence.
Seeing the officer quiet, Nathan didn’t dare make another move.
Another ten minutes passed. Everyone–Draven included–was convinced the rabbit was dea
wild rabbit lying motionless on the ground rolled over. But suddenly, the gray
“Ah? Ah?”
The ranger’s eyes widened as he saw the rabbit’s ears perk up, and it scanned the surroundings He rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
Everyone else reacted the same way, except Cassia, who had anticipated this.
Draven remained calm. He had noticed the rabbit likely wasn’t dead when the officer tried to handcuff her, though he hadn’t been willing to say it aloud.
Now, seeing the revived rabbit, he exhaled slowly,
When he turned to look at Cassia, there was a new spark of intrigue in his eyes.
The rabbit looked around, found no one in sight, and hopped away, disappearing into the
grass.

Cassia emerged from the bushes.
“So, are you still going to charge me?”
The ranger had no words.
That rabbit had just slapped his face with the truth.
What else could he say now?
The least he could do was apologize; at least that would save a shred of his dignity.

“I’m sorry. If you hadn’t insisted on proving it, I–I might’ve caused a miscarriage of justice, l said quietly.
Had he
gone ahead and arrested Cassia, she could have been wrongly punished. The truth coming out later would have cost him his job.
He should’ve listened and had patience.
“So, I’m not a psycho anymore?” Cassia asked, looking him in the eye.
“No, no,” the ranger said quickly, not daring to argue.
“Since that’s settled, I’m leaving. You all carry on.”
Nathan scowled as he watched the forest ranger walk away, his face twisted as he’d just eaten something sour.
What? That’s it? Done?
In the end, Cassia had not been taught a lesson, and he was the one who looked like a fool.
Damn it!
Once the ranger left, Nathan didn’t dare linger either. He decided to slip away, plotting to get back at the three of them next time.
He shot a venomous glance at Draven, Seven, and Cassia’s backs.
Watching Draven’s tall, commanding figure and Seven trailing behind like a servant, Nathan finally realized that they weren’t just friends. Seven was Draven’s assistant.
Wait, then that meant yesterday, there had been another person inside when they stopped the
car?
