Cassia thought for a moment. Then she sighed lightly and agreed, “Fine. Just give him a small

one.”

At least it would distract him. And maybe keep the family from making her life harder.

Cassia nodded and hung up. Then she fell backward onto her bed and went to sleep.

Nicole brought up Cassia on purpose. It was a warning.

Nicole smiled lightly. “Mr. Wood, you really do have a wonderful daughter. I like her a lot. She may seem cold, but I treat her like a little sister. And let me be clear, I don’t allow anyone to bully her.”

Vance felt sweat forming on his forehead.

He suddenly remembered all the times he’d ignored Cassia, the comments he made, and the times he pushed her aside.
