The white skirt had already been trampled filthy–streaked with dark footprints and stains, no better than a used dish rag.
Even so, some people still thought Cassia was in the wrong.
“Even if that’s what happened, a girl shouldn’t be fighting in public!”
“Yeah, what a disgrace. No manners at all!”
Cassia heard the scattered whispers, but she ignored them.
She had always been clear about what she loved and what she hated. How she handled her own business was not something anyone else got to point fingers at.
“Apologize,” Cassia said coolly to the man who had stepped on her skirt.
“What?” His buddy took one look at Cassia’s steady, unyielding posture and immediately bristled. “He just accidentally stepped on your dress, and you started swinging? My friend even got thrown by you–are you gonna pay his medical bills or what?”
“He harassed me first. I was defending myself.”
Cassia didn’t back down an inch as she answered.
“Who saw that? Jackson, did you touch her?”
Jackson felt a flicker of guilt being put on the spot. But when he glanced at the crowd and saw so many people around, he figured a little girl facing this kind of scene should already be scared out of her mind. As long as he refused to admit it, he’d be fine.
In a public argument like this, whoever could talk louder and twist the story better would “win.”
His courage swelled, and he lied without blinking. “No. And I already apologized to this little lady just now.”
The moment he said that, all the fingers turned on Cassia.
Jackson’s buddy glared at her. “Hear that? My friend said he didn’t touch you, and he already

apologized. You still threw him on the ground!”

“Yeah, that’s way out of line,” someone chimed in. People pointed and muttered as they surrounded Cassia.
Truth was, they didn’t care whether Jackson had really apologized or whether Cassia was telling the truth. They were just here for the show.
Cassia was speechless. She stood there, still and calm, not bothering to explain herself further.
Because she could see exactly what they were trying to do–force her into panicking, babbling explanations. The more flustered she got, the easier it would be for them to twist her words and make her look like the guilty one.
So, she refused to waste her breath. The more chaotic things got, the calmer she needed to be.
Only then would the enemy start to fear you.
Besides, the gemstone gambling was about to start. That man would definitely show up.
More and more people crowded in, blocking the passageway. The staff of the gemstone- betting market did nothing to control it.
If this kept up, things would tilt against Cassia.
Not far away, just outside the circle of onlookers, two pairs of eyes stared at Cassia from the shadows.
The two men were Seven–and, of course, Draven.
Seven watched Cassia standing in the middle of the crowd, a knot of worry in his chest. Every so often, he snuck a glance at his own boss.
He let out a quiet sigh.
The moment he’d spotted Cassia, he finally understood why his boss–who had never shown the slightest interest in gemstone gambling–suddenly wanted to come here, even flying back from Vrastin to Zrario just for this.
All of it… was just so he could see Ms. Wood with his own eyes.
He hadn’t expected Cassia to actually like gemstone gambling, though.
But… if Boss likes Ms. Wood that much, why doesn’t he just take her back to Vrastin?

Draven always had a habit of bringing anything he liked back home. Yet with Cassia, he didn’t.
That was nothing like his usual style.
No–if he was being precise, ever since Draven met Cassia, this man had been doing one thing after another that completely broke from his old patterns.
Even as his assistant, Seven was finding it harder and harder to figure him out.
Up ahead, the crowd suddenly shifted and stirred. Jackson looked like he was rolling up his sleeves, ready to go a few rounds with Cassia.
Seven’s heart jumped. He turned to Draven. “Boss, Ms. Wood’s in trouble. Aren’t you going to help her?”
They had started quietly tailing Cassia from the moment she walked into the gemstone- betting market. They’d seen everything clearly–how Jackson had stepped on her dress, never
put his hands on her. apologized, then
In that moment, Draven’s eyes had gone so cold and sharp it was like he was ready to kill. He had just ordered Seven to step in and “take care” of the man who dared lay a finger on Cassia … when Cassia moved first and sent Jackson flying with a clean over–the–shoulder throw.
Seven was stunned. His unflappable boss had been stunned, too.
“I’m sure that girl can handle it on her own.”
Draven didn’t blink as he watched Cassia in the middle of the crowd. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he spoke.
“Huh? But, Boss…”
So, Boss had decided she could win just from that throw earlier, right? That was why he was so calm now.
Seven knew Cassia could fight–she might really be able to take down that big guy. But even if she did, the fallout would be ugly.
There was no way Draven hadn’t thought of that. He just believed Cassia would never rely on something as crude as a fist fighting to settle this for real.
That girl had definitely already thought of the best way out.
If she could not even handle a small mess like this, then Draven would start to wonder whether the Cassia standing there was really the same Cassia he knew.
