Chapter 1005 An Uncanny Sympathy
Lewis’s laughter was so infectious and manic that it filled the room.
Victor was so incensed he looked ready to twist Lewis’s head right off his shoulders. “If you make one more sound, I guarantee you won’t leave this room alive.”
Lewis immediately stifled his laughter, but the effort was visible. Keeping it in was proving to be a monumental struggle.
Tessa turned to Victor, her voice soft with concern. “Is there… is there any medication you can take to ease this?”
Seeing him vomit so many times on the plane had genuinely worried her. If he had to suffer like this for the entire duration of her pregnancy, Victor would surely reach a breaking point. Would he end up with some form of prenatal depression?
The thought was terrifying. They needed to get this under control with medicine, and fast.
Victor’s face was like thunder as he looked at the doctor. The physician looked rather embarrassed. “In cases like this, medication usually has very little effect.”
“So you’re saying Victor has to endure this for her entire pregnancy?”
“Hahahaha!” Lewis erupted again.
Silas massaged his forehead. While he also found the situation absurdly funny, he was genuinely worried Lewis was going to get beaten to death.
Tessa watched Lewis’s hysterics and felt her mind go blank. “I really think you should stop laughing,” she whispered, truly fearing for his safety.
Ultimately, the doctor prescribed several different medications. Even though they said the medicine might not work, Victor demanded them. He couldn’t stand the thought of being this “delicate” and constantly retching.
Back at the manor, Tessa tenderly prepared the medicine for a weakened Victor. “Why don’t you try this one first?”
It was a bizarre role reversal. She was the one carrying the child, yet Victor was enduring all the physical hardship. And now, she was the one playing nurse.
The moment Victor tasted the medicine, his body rejected it instantly. He lunged for the restroom and threw up again.
Tessa stood there, helpless. What were they supposed to do?
When Stella called to ask if they had arrived safely, Victor was in the middle of another bout of vomiting.
Tessa sounded utterly exhausted. “Stella, have you ever heard of a man getting morning sickness while the woman is pregnant?”

“What?” Stella asked, shocked. Was that even a thing?

“I’m telling you, Victor’s pregnancy reaction is severe. He’s been throwing up since the flight home?
Stella was at a loss for words. “That’s… insane.”
Tessa recounted the hospital visit and the clean bill of health. Stella found the whole thing surreal. “He’s perfectly healthy, yet he’s vomiting like that?”
“Exactly. The doctor said it’s a sympathetic pregnancy reaction. Can you believe it? The baby is in my stomach, but he’s the one suffering.”
Stella didn’t know what to say, but she eventually offered a silver lining. “Well, at least you’re feeling fine. You won’t have to suffer through it, right?”
“But seeing him like that breaks my heart,” Tessa admitted. She had never seen Victor so frail. “He’s turned pale from all the retching. He really looks like a suffering pregnant woman.”
They chatted for a few more minutes before Victor emerged from the bathroom. He had taken a quick shower, but his face looked even paler than it had on the plane. He looked completely drained.
“Are you… okay?” Tessa asked.
“I’m fine,” Victor replied weakly. “Fix me another dose of that medicine. Put more water in it this time.”
“Alright.”
Tessa didn’t think the medicine smelled that bad, but Victor clearly couldn’t stand it. She followed his instructions, diluting it heavily to mask the scent and taste.
This time, Victor felt the urge to gag again, but he forced himself to hold it back. He was desperate for the medicine to work. He managed to keep it down past his throat, but his stomach began to churn almost immediately.
Silas and Lewis stood outside the door. Hearing their boss retching over and over again, their expressions became quite complicated.
Lewis had found it hilarious at first, but the humor was starting to fade. “If things follow the usual pattern, Victor is going to become extremely irritable.”
Pregnant women were known for mood swings and being difficult to please. Since Victor was the one with the symptoms, he was likely going to be far more difficult than any pregnant woman.
Silas remained silent, absorbing the weight of that realization.
