Chapter 1006 Tending to the Pregnant One
Was this really just a matter of “enduring a little hardship“?
The feeling was, in a word, wretched.
Victor hadn’t even finished basking in the excitement of becoming a father before he started plotting how he would discipline the child. This little brat wasn’t even born yet and was already tormenting him like this through the womb. Once he finally arrived, Victor was definitely going to teach him a lesson.
“Should I have Derrick head over to keep an eye on things?” Abraham suggested over the phone. “Being this weak isn’t sustainable for you.”
The word “weak” pricked at Victor’s pride like a needle.
“I’m fine. I’ll recover soon enough!”
Was he joking? He wasn’t about to let himself be defeated by a bit of morning sickness. As a man who always demanded total control over his environment, he hadn’t initially taken these pregnancy symptoms seriously.
However, this time, Victor had clearly miscalculated.
This wasn’t just a minor case of nausea. A physical reaction that ignored his willpower and resisted all medication was the most troublesome kind of problem.

At the lunch table, Tessa was the picture of patience. She meticulously picked the bones out of a piece of fish for Victor, treating him with the same delicate care one would show a fragile pregnant woman.
Seeing him vomit so violently made her genuinely fear that his iron–clad constitution might actually break down. Tessa, for her part, had adapted to their reversed roles with surprising speed. Within half a day, she had fully stepped into the role of a “pregnancy caregiver.”
But the moment she placed a deboned piece of fish into Victor’s bowl, his brow furrowed into a tight knot.
“Take it away. Get it away from me…” Victor shielded his mouth with his hand, looking as though the bowl contained poison.
“I’m taking it! I’m taking it away right now. Don’t panic,” Tessa said, quickly waving for a servant to remove the dish.
Only when the faint scent of fish had completely dissipated did Victor’s complexion settle slightly, though he still looked as pale as a sheet.
“Then what can you eat?” Tessa asked, her voice laced with worry. “How about some beef?”
The moment Victor looked at the beef, his mind conjured an image of a slaughterhouse, and his stomach lurched again. Tessa took one look at his turning face and knew it was a lost cause.
“Don’t say a word. Take this away too.”
The servants scrambled to remove the beef. Only a few light, bland side dishes remained on the table.

Tessa sighed, looking at him helplessly. “My dear, what on earth can you eat?”

She was discovering for the first time that “pregnant” people were incredibly difficult to cater to. No wonder Stella used to complain about not being able to cat anything or stand even the slightest smell of cooking oil. Just now, merely the hint of fish had nearly caused Victor to retch his lungs out.
Lunch ended in a grueling stalemate. Once she finally managed to coax Victor into a nap, Tessa slipped out to the balcony and called Rianne.
Rianne was silent for a full thirty seconds after hearing the explanation. “You’re pregnant, and he’s the one with the symptoms?”
“Oh, stop being surprised and just help me! Tell me what medicine can stop this,” Tessa pleaded. “The stuff the hospital gave us today didn’t do a thing. It breaks my heart to see him like this.”
Rianne was equally speechless. For Tessa to be this distressed, Victor must truly be suffering.
“Medically, this is known as Couvade syndrome. It’s a real thing, but it’s extremely rare. I can’t believe Victor of all people was the one to get it.”
As a doctor, Rianne had seen all sorts of strange cases, but seeing the legendary tough–guy Victor fall victim to “sympathetic morning sickness” was surreal.
“The medicine they gave him today smelled too strong, and he threw it right back up. I can’t get anything into him.” Tessa added.
“I’ll send you the names of two specific medications and a tailored meal plan,” Rianne replied. “Follow the diet strictly, and it should help suppress the reaction.”
Tessa agreed immediately. Even if it felt like she was raising a giant, high–maintenance “pregnant lady,” he was the father of her child. Since he was suffering in her place, she intended to double her efforts to care for
him.
When the list arrived, Tessa saw the drugs were different from the hospital’s prescriptions and sent Lewis to get them right away.
