The Returned Heiress Who Never Fit Im
Chapter 1007 Taking Responsibility
Diana: “What? Looking after who?”
Looking after a pregnant person? Had she heard that correctly? Her daughter–who had been raised by nannies and had never lifted a finger for a day of housework in hier life–was actually taking care of someone?
Back when she was with Stella, if she “took care” of her, it was usually by throwing money at the problem. She certainly didn’t do it with her own two hands!
“Uh, I mean…” Tessa’s tongue slipped in her haste. “I’m looking after Victor.”
“Victor? The pregnant one?”
Well, when you put it like that!
In an instant, Diana realized something was very wrong. “Tessa.”
Hearing the shift in her mother’s tone, Tessa cleared her throat. “Yeah, I’m here. No need to shout.”
“Tell me the truth!” Diana’s voice grew stern, carrying the weight of a mother who knew exactly when her daughter was lying.
With that kind of pressure, Tessa didn’t dare hold back. “Well… the thing is… I’m pregnant.”
She felt there was no point in hiding it from her mother any longer.
On the other end of the line, Diana went completely silent.
“But
you don’t need to worry,” Tessa rushed to add. “I haven’t had a single symptom. I’m eating and sleeping great. It’s just Victor who’s having a rough time. He won’t stop vomiting.”
Diana: “…”
“You should see him. He’s retching so much that if you didn’t know better, you’d think he was the one carrying the baby.”
Diana: “…” Wait, is that really the point right now?
The situation was so absurd it took a moment to process. “I don’t follow.”
“I’m pregnant,” Tessa repeated slowly, “and Victor is the one with the morning sickness.”
H
“Do you get it now?”
“I get it!” Diana snapped. She understood the words, but the reality of it, what a massive headache!
“Oh, good. As long as you understand,” Tessa said, getting straight to the point. “So, you’re not going to

object to me marrying Victor, right?”
Diana’s heart skipped a beat. “Marriage?”

“Honey, do you even realize what kind of man Victor is?”
Diana felt as though her precious daughter was suddenly siding with an outsider. It felt like only yesterday Tessa was asking for her allowance; how had she suddenly ended up with a baby on the way?
“I know. It’s a bit dangerous,” Tessa admitted.
“A bit dangerous?”
In Diana’s eyes, it was dangerous enough for her daughter just to date someone like Victor, let alone commit to a life together. Her own daughter! This was a disaster.
“What are you trying to say?” Tessa countered. “I’m telling you, he’s vomiting his guts out because of my pregnancy. I can’t just walk away and not take responsibility for him.”
Diana: “…” She… taking responsibility for a man?
“Besides,” Tessa continued firmly, “I’m the one who liked him first. I seduced him. I was the initiator in everything!”
”
“So, I have to take responsibility for him.”
Victor, who had just walked out of the bedroom, caught that last sentence. Usually a man of ice and steel, he felt a sudden, warm surge of being protected. The feeling brought a rare, genuine smile to his lips.
Being protected… In all these years, he had never felt anything like it.
On the phone, Diana’s lip twitched at her daughter’s claims of being the aggressor. “Honey, have you lost your mind?”
“I’m the one who forced myself on him!”
“Oh?” Diana found that incredibly hard to believe. “Weren’t you afraid he’d kill you? Do you really expect me to believe that?”
She knew her daughter too well. When Tessa first got together with Victor, she had been scared to death of him. And now she was claiming she had “forced” him?
“Regardless, I have to take responsibility for him. You have to agree whether you like it or not. Just name your price–how much money do you want to marry off your daughter?”
“Tsk, tsk. Look at you, so eager to leave. And what if I don’t agree?”
“Then I’ll go on a hunger strike,” Tessa threatened. “It’ll be your grandchild who goes hungry. I don’t know if they can take it, but I definitely can.”
