Chapter 34

AMORAH

I did not sleep. The room was quiet, but my mind was not, and my wolf stayed alert through the night. Every time I closed my eyes. I saw the witness again and heard his last words.

“Hidden rite”

I sat up before dawn, already dressed, my attention fixed on the door. This was not my territory, and I refused to move through it like I belonged here.

“You should not wait,” my wolf said.

“I am not waiting.” I replied.

“Then move.”

I stepped out of the room without hesitation, scanning the corridor as I did. The guards stationed outside did not try to stop

They were watching.

I moved past them without slowing down, keeping my steps steady as I made my way through the pack house. Every part of this place was structured, and built for order.

I reached the lower level and stopped when I noticed movement ahead. A group of wolves stood near a secured section, speaking in low voices while checking a sealed entrance.

My wolf stirred immediately. “That is not normal.”

“I know.” I replied.

I slowed my steps, staying just out of direct sight as I listened carefully. The words were quiet, but I caught enough to understand what was happening.

“Transfer confirmed.”

“Before sunrise.”

“No delays.”

My chest tightened.

This was not Silvercrest, but something was still moving. I took a step closer, trying to get a better look at what they were guarding.

A hand caught my arm before I could move further.

I reacted instantly, turning with force, but I stopped when I saw Conrad.

“You move without thinking,” he said.

“I move when I need to,” I replied.

His grip did not loosen immediately. His gaze stayed on me, sharp and focused, as if he was checking something I could not

“That is not your area,” he said.

“Then why is it guarded like that?” I asked.

He did not answer immediately, and that was enough for me.

“You already knew,” I said.

“Yes,” he replied.

My chest tightened. “Then explain.”

“Not here,” he said.

I pulled my arm free this time, stepping back just enough to create space between us. “You keep saying that.”

“And you keep asking at the wrong time,” he replied.

“This is the right time,” I said.

His expression did not change, but I saw the shift in his focus. He was deciding something.

“Come with me.” he said.

I hesitated for a second, then followed. We moved away from the guarded section quickly, taking a different path that led outside.

The air was colder, and the early light had not fully broken yet. Wolves were already active across the grounds, but none of them interfered with our path.

“You said I needed to leave Silvercrest,” I said. “Now something is moving here too.

“It was already moving before you arrived,” he replied.

“What is it?” I asked.

He stopped walking and turned to face me fully “Something you are not prepared to handle alone.”

“That is not an answer,” I said.

“It is enough,” he replied.

I exhaled sharply, my patience thinning. “You brought me here. You involved me. You do not get to decide what I can or cannot handle.”

“I decide what risks you take under my authority,” he said.

“That again,” I replied.

“Yes,” he said.

I stepped closer, not backing down this time. “Then say it clearly. What are you hiding?”

His gaze stayed on mine. “The same thing Holmes is hiding.”

That made me pause.

The twins.” I said.

“Yes,” he replied,

My chest tightened again. “Then this is connected.”

“It is,” he said.

“Then why are you moving things here?” I asked.

His expression hardened slightly. “Because I am not waiting for Holmes to make the next move,”

That changed everything.

“You are moving against him,” I said.

“I am moving ahead of him,” he corrected.

I held his gaze, understanding settling in slowly. “And you did not tell me.”

“You were not here yet,” he replied.

“And now I am.” I said.

“Yes,” he said.

A sharp sound cut through the air behind us.

Conrad turned immediately, his attention shifting toward the direction it came from. I followed his gaze, my body already reacting.

Guards were moving. Not the same ones from before. These were armed.

“They are not mine,” Conrad said.

My chest tightened. “Holmes.”

“Yes,” he replied.

They were already inside his territory. That meant Holmes was no longer holding back.

“They should not be able to get this far,” I said.

“They should not,” Conrad replied,

That meant something had gone wrong.

Or someone had allowed it.

The guards moved fast, spreading out as they advanced. They were not here to observe.

They were here to act.

“Stay behind me.” Conrad said.

“I am not stepping back,” I replied.

“You are not leading this,” he said.

Before I could respond, the first group reached us.
