The Rise Of The Betrayed Luna (Amorah and Holmes) novel Chapter 35

Chapter 35

AMORAH

I woke up with the memory of last night still clear in my mind, but I did not allow it to show. My body felt rested, yet my thoughts were already moving. I sat up slowly, reminding myself that this was no longer Silvercrest and I needed to move carefully.

My wolf stayed quiet for a moment before speaking. You are thinking about him.”

I am thinking about everything,I replied.

I stood UP and got dressed without rushing, choosing simple clothes that allowed me to move easily. The room still felt unfamiliar, but I did not let that affect my posture. If I was going to stay here, even temporarily, I would not act like I was out of place.

When I stepped out into the hallway, the guards were already there. They acknowledged me with a slight nod but did not speak. Their presence felt less like a restriction this morning and more like a constant reminder of where I was.

I walked past them without hesitation.

He runs this place tightly,my wolf said.

I can see that,I replied..

I made my way toward the main hall, keeping my pace steady. I did not know where Conrad was, but I knew I would find him where decisions were being made. That was the kind of Alpha he was.

When I entered the hall, I saw him.

He stood near the center, surrounded by a few highranking wolves, speaking in a low voice. His posture was relaxed, but the attention on him was clear. Every wolf in that space was aware of him without needing to look directly.

I slowed slightly but did not stop.

My wolf stirred again. There.”

I know,I said quietly.

As I moved closer, something moved inside me. It was not a sound at first, not something I could hear clearly. It was a feeling, a rhythm that did not belong to me but matched me too closely to ignore.

I paused.

My heartbeat and his were the same.

My breath caught slightly as I became more aware of it. It was not imagination, and it was not coincidence. The connection was subtle but clear enough that I could not dismiss it.

What is this?my wolf asked.

I don’t know,I replied.

I forced myself to keep walking, even though the awareness stayed with me. Conrad’s gaze shifted toward me the moment I stepped fully into his space. The conversation around him stopped without needing a command.

Amorah,” he said.

I nodded once. Alpha.”

The others stepped back, giving us space without being told. That alone showed how much authority he held here. I tried to focus on that instead of the rhythm I could still feel

You rested,he said.

I did.” I replied.

His gaze lingered on me for a moment longer than necessary. It was not uncomfortable, but it was enough to make me more aware of everything I was trying to ignore. My wolf shifted again, unsettled.

You’re not settled,” he said.

I don’t need to be,” I replied.

He did not respond immediately. Instead, he stepped slightly closer, not enough to draw attention, but enough for me to feel it again. The rhythm grew clearer, stronger, and harder to ignore.

I stepped back.

I need some air,I said.

He watched me for a moment but did not stop me. Go.

I turned without waiting for anything else and walked out of the hall. My steps were controlled, but my mind was not as steady as I wanted it to be. The connection stayed with me, even as I created distance.

What was that?my wolf asked again.

I don’t know,I replied.

I returned to my room and closed the door behind me, leaning against it for a moment. The silence helped, but it did not remove what I had felt. My heartbeat slowly returned to its own rhythm, separate and clear.

That was not normal,” my wolf said.

I know,I replied.

I pushed myself away from the door and moved toward the bed. I needed to think, to understand what was happening without reacting to it. But before I could settle, there was a knock on the door.

I froze for a moment before answering.

Come in.

The door opened, and Conrad stepped inside. He did not come emptyhanded.

There were flowers in one hand and a small box in the other. The sight of it caught me off guard, even though I did not let it show fully. My wolf went still, watching him closely.

What is this?I asked.

He closed the door behind him before answering. Something simple.

I crossed my arms slightly, keeping my expression neutral. You don’t seem like the type.

I’m not,he said.

That answer made me pause for a second. He walked closer and placed the flowers on the table before holding out the box. His movements were calm, direct, and without hesitation.

I’m not trying to impress you,he added.

I looked at the box but did not take it immediately. Then what are you doing?

He met my gaze without looking away. Making sure you don’t think you lost everything.”

That made something shift inside me.

I took the box slowly and opened it. Inside was a new phone, clean and untouched, with no connection to anything I had before. I understood what it meant the moment I saw it.

A new number,he said.

I looked up at him. Why?

So you can start again,he replied.

I closed the box halfway, still holding it in my hands. I didn’t come here to start over.

You came here to win,” he said.

His voice was calm, but the meaning was clear. He was not offering comfort for the sake of it. He was setting direction.

And this helps me do that?I asked.

Yes,he said.

I studied him carefully, trying to understand his intention fully. You expect me to trust you.”

I expect you to decide,he replied.

That answer made me pause again. He was not forcing it, but he was not stepping back either. It was a choice, but one that came with weight.

I don’t need gifts,I said.

I know.he replied.

Then why bring them?I asked.

His gaze softened slightly, just enough for me to notice. Because you need to feel like you still have control.

That caught me off guard more than I expected.

I looked away for a moment, focusing on the phone in my hand. It felt unfamiliar, but also necessary in a way I could not deny. My wolf stayed quiet, observing everything without interrupting.

I’m not trying to claim anything from you right now,he said.

I looked back at him. Right now?
