Zane held off until the following afternoon to call Elara.

"How is the repayment for that maturing debt coming along?"

"Everything is on track," Elara replied over the phone.

"Next time you have a debt coming due, tell me in advance."

"Alright, I know," she answered dismissively.

"And what stage are you at with Dominic's project?" Zane pressed.

Elara gave him a brief rundown of the key details.

"If you run into any hurdles or red tape, let me know," he added.

"Got it," she said.

Zane continued to ask a few more questions until Elara finally lost her patience. "Mr. Whitaker, why are you beating around the bush? What do you actually want to say?"

Zane let out a soft chuckle. "It's nothing, really. A relative of mine is celebrating his kid's first birthday. My mom wants me to accompany her for a couple of days. Since I won't be in town, I wanted to ask if you'd like to come over to my place tonight."

"I can't. Director Wainwright just informed me about some issues on the project site. I have to head over there tomorrow, so I need to prep the materials tonight and pack my things."

"What a coincidence," Zane said immediately. "I'm heading to Eastford too."

Elara was slightly surprised, but considering his grandmother's family was rooted in Eastford, it made sense. "That is quite a coincidence."

"How about I come find you when I'm done?" Zane persisted.

Given that his mother would be there, Elara hesitated. "We'll see."

"Should I book the same hotel as before?"
