< The Seduction of Jac Frost
Protecting their Mate Part I
Wilder entered his office with his brother hot on his heels. He felt more than smidge of irritation at the group sitting around waiting or their return.
“Where is she?” Winika asked breathlessly. Her wide eyes
wild with worry and her hands flailing.
“She is not coming.” Wilder snarled out as he shot Jacinta a curious glance. She was staring at her fingernails, and her bottom lip was pouted out like a petulant child. Keeping her in his periphery he rolled his shoulders and moved to sit
behind his desk.
“You should have made her!”
“Jack,” Rafferty shot in before Wilder could, “do you want her
to truly hate us all? Because right now, she’s simply angry over the fact you jumped her like a bunch of feral animals.”
“She is my child!”
“She is a woman! A woman who has been on this planet for twenty–five years and she is not a little girl you need to mark with your scent, Winika. She grew up in a world where if

someone touched you and you allowed it, it was an invitation to intimacy. I got her records pulled from the state system. Do you know she had two, as if one wasn’t bad enough, but two different situations she was pulled from because of unwanted attention from the men in the home? The first one got caught by his wife jerking off to a photo of her. They got divorced and she got put in a different home. She was twelve. The second one was when she was sixteen and she walked out of the foster home she was assigned to the day she graduated. She filed a complaint telling her social worker not to place any more female children in the family because the father liked to slap her ass as she walked by when he demanded her to bring his beer and his wife turned a blind eye telling Jacqueline that it was experience for when she inevitably ended up working in a dive bar. The woman had no idea Jacqueline was gifted academically and was graduating early to get the fuck out of there.”
Winika looked her husband, “I want him found and killed.”
“Already done,” Wilder cut her off as he looked at Rafferty and they shared a wicked, humorless smile. “What I am trying to convey however is she is not a touchy–feely girl, and you have all put your hands on her in way or another.”
“You’re blaming us? I heard you gave her a lesson in scenting 2/5

yesterday.” Jack snarled as he folded his arms over his chest. “You tried to mark her yesterday. Admit it!”
“We admit it!” Wilder flicked his wrist between himself and
his brother, “she is our mate. We want her. We have done
nothing outside of what is natural for mates to do.”
“You freaked her out.”
“We recognized soon enough we were scaring her and we
backed off and let her take the day to acclimate to what
was happening. Then you went, brought her to the fucking
palace, and crossed boundaries and refused to help her.”
He looked again at Jacinta sideways who was still boredly playing with her fingers and a niggle of concern floated
to his chest. When he looked at Rafferty he could see his brother was doing the same thing. “She told us you dug your nails into her back like talons. Why? Why would you do such a
thing?”
“I didn’t mean to!” Jacinta lifted her lashes and fluttered them, her bottom lip protruding even further now. “I was holding her tight in case I lost her again. She was lost on my watch. I was the one who went with the nurse to clean her up and then she was gone.”

“You –” Rafferty started to speak but then Wilder cut him off
with a warning glance.
“The behavior of the Frost family is costing me my mate and as much as you want her to be part of your family, you need to let her come to you next time.” Wilder leaned in his chair and pulled a pen off the desktop and tapped it against his palm. “She was ready to resign. This position, this opportunity is her dream job. It offers her the financial freedom she never had as a child. Regardless whether she is a Frost or not, she is an independent woman who wants to make her own decisions and the way you all came at her yesterday, throwing yourself atop her and you,” he pointed at the two men, “didn’t do anything to protect her. At least when we realized we’d pushed her, we backed off. You went right
after her.”
“She slapped Jacinta,” Jack was frustrated.
“Jacinta stabbed her in the back,” as he said the words aloud Jacqueline’s accusations were ringing in his ears. Was it possible that Jacinta was the one who got rid of Jacqueline?
“I didn’t mean to. I was simply so excited,” she pouted loudly and grabbed her mother’s hand, “mummy, you must believe me. I’d never hurt her. I am so glad she is back and she found 4/5

her mates. It’s a wonderous time. I want to be the big sister
to help her prepare for her mating ceremony and wedding. She’s been with humans for so long, she probably doesn’t know any of our traditions or customs and she’s going to be so far behind in Frost training.”
Wilder shot a look at Rafferty as his brother dropped into a
chair and put his finger to his chin pensively. He definitely
wasn’t the only one seeing Jacinta in a new light. Then she
clinched it for both of them.
“I mean, imagine she’s going to be back in the Frost family getting everything which is owed to her and she also gets the Southern Royal Twins for mates? It’s like the universe is repaying her the debt of being stolen away and she’s so ungrateful she won’t even come spend time with us. We’ll simply have to be better than her and make sure she knows
she’s loved.”
