Sharing Theories Part II
“What? Why? If she saw her as our mate,” Wilder sighed, “then why get rid of her? Who would do such a thing?”

River nodded as if her mother was making all kinds of sense.
“You just said it. We were always together. Perhaps since she
never found her mate yet and you didn’t find yours, she had
hopes that you would be willing to choose her, one of you at
least. If when she touched Jacqueline when she was born and
saw a glimpse of her future and it included the two of you, she might have simply got rid of her.”
“Except her gift doesn’t work.” Rafferty commented. “Do you remember Wilder? Both the Northern and Southern
priestesses tried to get her manifest her powers. She lost her
gift of sight. Both priestesses confirmed it and said it was likely due to the trauma of being hit.”
“Or” Fawn offered, “with the information we have now, could
it be that the loss of her gift of sight was a punishment from the Creator? She used her gifts for her own selfish gains in go

way that violated everything about mate bonds, family, and friendship.” Fawn shook her head as she considered it. “I will reach out to the priestess and ask her to advise but this is becoming more and more a leading theory in my head.”
“I’m with Mom,” River nodded. “Jacinta used her gift, whether intentionally or not, and was able to sus out that Jacqueline would someday be your mate. The jealousy that she was going to lose her role as the pampered princess, coupled with the fact she was going to get the twins as her mates, pushed her to do the unthinkable. She faked her own injuries to hide her crimes and in doing so, she lost her gifts.”
“What if this is why she hasn’t found a mate?” Hugh said finally contributing to the conversation. “We’ve questioned for ages why it was that all the children were not finding their mates. What if her actions stalled the rest of the royal family from finding their mates until Jacqueline was returned to where she belonged.”
“This is all crazy conjecture,” Wilder said seriously. “We cannot take these accusations to the King and ask him to take us seriously without proof.”
“Then we get it.” River said equally serious. “We get the proof. Your mate deserves to be in a family which is safe, secure, 2/7

and loving. She deserves mates who have her back. She
deserves parents who will love her without reservation. We will get the proof. We will get all the evidence and then we’ll present it to the Frost family fait accompli and that will be
that.”
“How?” Wilder sighed. “Rafferty and I have been racking our brains on how to get the information and the best we could come up with was to potentially have drinks later with Jacinta and pray she slipped up but the idea of spending time with
her instead of our mate makes us revolted. I’d rather eat
nails dipped in acid than spend one–on–one time with Jacinta
Frost.”
“Those words sound like music to my ears.”
The group turned to see Jacqueline standing behind them.
“Hi. Sorry to interrupt. I was waiting over by the bar for you to finish your conversation but thought I’d come over and say if
you need to reschedule.”
“Absolutely not,” Rafferty growled and pulled her into his
arms.
Wilder immediately moved to reassure her and cupped her 3/7

cheek, “nothing is going to cancel our plans, princess.”
“Oh, my goodness! This is cute!” River exclaimed and Wilder rolled his eyes. “Usually, you two are all brash, smug, and arrogant. I love this groveling, pandering thing.” River reached out and tugged Jacqueline’s hands, “hello sister. I am River. I know we will be best friends. You are going to need friends in this world. Trust me. These two could try the
patience of a saint. I will give you all the tips and tricks to
keep them behaving.”
“Hi River. It’s really nice to meet you.”
Wilder watched the way Jacqueline’s eyes brightened at the way River was responding to her. She was immediately at ease in River’s presence. Her smile was real and easy, and
her skin held no hint of the blue they’d been seeing so much
of lately.
“I know you have date night tonight, so my parents and I will make ourselves scarce. Do you have a cell phone?”
“Yeah,” she pulled her phone out and held it to River and
watched as River plugged her phone number into it.

anything, I’ll be there. We should go.”
“I feel bad like I’m chasing you off.”
Fawn reached out and squeezed Jacqueline’s shoulder, “are you kidding? The idea that my sons are going to spend time
fostering their bond with their mate is a dream come true
for me. As a mother all I want is for my children to be happy in their relationship. We’re going to have dinner. Perhaps we
can catch up tomorrow?”
“I’d like that,” Jacqueline smiled at the group.
“Breakfast?” River asked.
Wilder watched as Jacqueline’s smile fell and instantly his fists curled wanting to rip the world apart for her smile being
removed.
O
“I can’t. I promised my parents I’d meet them for breakfast. It’s why I was late coming down. They were waiting outside my room. Winika pushed right into my room and demanded my time. I set some boundaries and I did that spell thing you taught me, Wilder.” She shifted uncomfortably. “I hope they start to behave but I’m not holding out hope.”

“If you need a rescue at breakfast, text me,” River commented. “I’ll pop in and whisk you away. We’ll go skiing.”
“I don’t know how to ski. I’m also supposed to check in on Wraith; the client we’re here with.”
“I can teach you!” River exclaimed. “If you want to learn, I’ll happily go on the bunny hill with you in the morning. Only if
you want to. I’m sure Wilder can manage the check in with
the client so we girls can have some fun.”
Wilder nodded, thrilled that Jacqueline was getting a bit of real sisterly affection. “Absolutely. I’ll take first shift with him. You and River enjoy the day tomorrow. However, you are ours for the evening. Deal?”
She nodded shyly, “that sounds fun. Thank you River.”
“It is my pleasure. I always wanted a sister, but I never got one because the twins traumatized Mom so much she never wanted any more children after them. I’m lucky I was born first because I don’t think I’d exist if they’d been born first.”
Hugh patted Jacqueline’s shoulder, “We’ll leave you to it but if you need us for anything, you only need to whisper our names in the wind and we’ll be there. Do not think you need 6/7

to face the Frost family on your own. We are here for you,
Jacqueline.”
“Thank you, Hugh.”
“You can all leave now,” Wilder commented with a grin, “before my mate realizes the real gift of us as mates is having you as family and she leaves us to go dine with you.”
“It’s a possibility,” Jacqueline joked.
Wilder considered her teasing smile might be the best thing he’d ever seen. His girl was starting to thaw around them. It made his heart sing. Looking at his brother he knew he was feeling the same thing. This was how they were going to win
their mate over.
