“Oh Jacqueline,” Wilder pulled her into a hug and rocked her back and forth. “Not for a single moment were we ever
wanting to shake you silly. You’re our mate and we loved you
from the moment we bonded. Not a single thing in this world
would ever make us love you less.” He kissed the top of her
head as Rafferty rubbed her back reassuringly.
“I do agree with Dad though. We should get these two away
from the people looking at the scene he’s making.”
“No!” River brushed her tears off her cheeks. “If he is who
the original queen meant for me, then I will take him to my room and I will explain all of this. It is not what I expected, or wanted to be fair, but it is what I need.” She looked at Jacqueline sadly, “I know I said we would hang out the rest of the afternoon, but I have more pressing matters I need to tend to.”
“Yeah, like boning your mate,” Rafferty snorted as Wilder snickered at held his fist out for a fist bump.

“That’s your sister,” Jacqueline chastised them.
River pulled Wraith off the floor, “come on, mate.” Her lips trembled and she looked at her mother, “I have a mate.”
“You do. Go. If you need me, just call me.”
“I will.”
River was leading a stumbling Wraith up the stairs.
“I can’t believe that just happened,” Wilder snickered as he rubbed Jacqueline’s hair and kissed her forehead.
“Is that how it usually is?”
“Sometimes it’s quieter. It’s not often we see a human as
a mate, unheard of in a royal so it’s going to be a huge
learning curve, and I don’t know I’ve ever seen such a thing,”
Hugh shook his head. “She is smart and even keeled. She will figure it out. I am certain.”
“I wish I’d knew why I wasn’t feeling it the same way.”
“You will,” Wilder said reassuringly.

“He is human and he was on his knees with the emotions and
the feelings. It was beautiful and emotional and I,” she made a face, “I was River except she realized what she has and I was screaming I wanted to talk rejections.”
“We’d never have let that happen,” Rafferty snorted as he pulled her to sit between them on the sofa.
Hugh sat on a chair perpendicular to the sofa and pulled Fawn to his lap. “All stories are personal, Jacqueline. I am not ashamed to say I was very much like Wraith was. I was pleading on my knees. There is nothing wrong with making your mate work for it though.” He smiled at her, “especially if your mates are twin princes who have never heard the word
no in their lives.”
“Speaking of,” she looked on either side of her, “River made a good point earlier. You both convinced me to give up my room to bunk with you Wilder, but why didn’t you give me your room Rafferty, and you bunk with Wilder?”
“River needs to be quiet and mind her business,” Wilder growled furiously. “You are already unpacked in the room.
You can’t move to the other room now.”

She laughed at his words and sunk her head on his shoulder, “I don’t want to move out.” Her eyes drifted to the stairs, “I want to feel that. I hope the more time we spend together the more I feel.”
“It will happen,” Rafferty stretched his arm over the back of the sofa creating a cozy. “I am confident.”
“Is it true that there hasn’t been any mating since I was abducted?”
“Even for a few years before that,” Fawn nodded. “I think the last person was Jack, your brother but even before him there
was a long gap.”
“Jack.” She frowned, “wait, I remember he has a gold bond with his mate, right?”
“Yes.”
“Where is she?” Jacqueline frowned. “Why is she not here?”
Everyone exchanged glances.
“What?”

“She is very introverted and with all the large personalities in the Frost family she tends to stay home. Your brother is likely going to his room here at night and then transporting back home to be with her.”
“Why is he even here?” she made a face.
“Who? Are you talking about me, little sister?” Jack leaned
over the back of the sofa.
“How does someone your size manage to sneak up on people?” Jacqueline snapped.
“With a great deal of difficulty,” he moved to sit on the other
chair opposite Fawn and Hugh. “I know you don’t want to see
us, but I can’t accept that. Also,” he frowned and puffed out
his cheeks, “I watched her last night and this morning.”
“Who?”
“Jacinta.”
“Why?”
“Because her behavior, her lies to our parents, the way she tried to make you look like you were the problem and then,” 5/6

he was bouncing his knee nervously, “Mom and Dad made
it clear we were to give you space with them this morning.
They said we’d had thousands of breakfasts with them over the years, and you deserved one. She crashed it and when
Dad sent her to her room, she came to mine and started
going off how you were stealing Mom and Dad from us. She was erratic and acting oddly.”
“Your point?” Jacqueline glowered at him.
“She’s my sister and I want to believe the girl I know, and love is not capable of what you all think she is,” he swallowed, “but since we’ve been here, watching her through different lenses, and it’s making me concerned. What if,” he shifted uncomfortably, “you’re right? What if it was her and the reason she’s spiraling right now is because she’s terrified she’s going to get caught? I want to protect her but she’s not helping herself and she’s acting so fucking weird. I don’t
know what to do.”
