Chapter 107
Getting the door slammed in her face didn’t embarrass Vivian in the slightest. She simply rubbed her nose and strolled back to her own room.
The next morning, she woke early to the sound of tires crunching on the gravel driveway.
The guy might be blind, but he was certainly a workaholic.
Likely due to standing in heels for too long the night before, a dull, pulsing ache flared in her bad leg. Vivian tried to push through it but eventually gave in and called Zoe Hunt to drive her to the hospital.
Registration, examinations, deep tissue massage.
By the time she limped out of the clinic, the doctors had already gone to lunch.
After lying flat for hours, every bone in her body felt rusty. She was just massaging her stiff shoulder when, as luck would have it, she ran straight into Jonah.
“Is your leg acting up again?”
“Is that any of your business?”
Jonah was dressed in his pristine white coat, looking very much like a permanent fixture at the hospital. Passing nurses cast flirty glances and found excuses to greet him, proving he was just as popular as ever.
Having zero desire to deal with him, Vivian pivoted to leave.
“Vivian-”
The man reached out and snagged her wrist, his voice dropping into a low, magnetic register. “Have lunch with me.”
Vivian turned her head, her gaze drifting slowly from his grip up to his supposedly refined, gentle face. She violently wrenched her arm free.
“Is there something wrong with your brain, Dr. Granger? With all those nurses practically throwing themselves at you, why insist on annoying me?”
Jonah’s brows pulled together in a tight frown. “Does it have to be like this?”
“Like what?”
She truly didn’t get it. This man was obsessed with Amara, and Vivian had already stepped aside to let them be together. What more did he want? Did she need to literally rip out her heart and hand it to him?
In his dreams.
She wasn’t nearly that self-sacrificing.
“I’ve explained everything there is to explain. I even moved back to Northside for you. What more do you want?”
“For me?” Vivian tilted her chin up. “You mean for my heart, right?”
Why else would he refuse to return to his family’s corporate empire?
Why else would he slum it here as a surgeon?
Exhausted by the conversation, Vivian said coldly, “Your reasons have nothing to do with me. Jonah, I have a new boyfriend now. You saw him yourself. Let’s just go our separate ways”
“Vivian, I believe I told you there’s a limit to how much of a tantrum I’ll tolerate.”
Jonah didn’t move an inch, looking entirely confident that she wouldn’t walk away.
Vivian rolled her eyes. She had barely taken a step when his dark voice stopped her cold.
“Did you forget that I’m also a businessman? If I snap my fingers, your mother’s little company won’t survive another day in Northside.”

Her foot froze mid-air.
She turned back.
“So, what exactly do you want, Jonah?”
The smile on Vivian’s face was utterly devoid of warmth, but Jonah pretended not to notice. He closed the distance between them in two strides, raising a hand to gently tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “Dinner with me tonight. Hmm?”
Staring into his eyes, Vivian felt a sudden, terrifying chill crawl up her spine.
“…Fine.”
A wise woman knew when to pick her battles.
