Chapter 196
Outside the police station, Amara had left two of her people stationed to keep watch. Their orders were to report back immediately if anyone showed up to bail Vivian out.
Time dragged on heavily in the sweltering air. Even the officer on duty checked the clock a few times.
Wasn’t this Miss Fairchild the girlfriend of the infamous Silas Sterling?
Someone should have picked her up by now.
Just as the sky began to darken, Simon Young’s figure finally appeared in the doorway. Trailing behind him was the undisputed champion of Sterling Enterprises’ elite legal team+a lawyer who had never lost a case.
The bail process was smoother than anyone expected. Forms were filled, signatures signed, and the suspect released.
Simon fully expected to see a battered, disheveled woman walk out, but he couldn’t have been more wrong.
Not only was Vivian completely immaculate, she even offered a bright wave and spread her fingers in greeting.
“Hey, long time no see.”
“…Hello, Miss Fairchild.”
As for the ‘long time no see’-
It hadn’t really been that long. They had just seen each other yesterday.
Vivian was the picture of calm. On her way out, she even casually waved goodbye to the officer on duty before falling into step beside Simon and heading straight for the car.
It was a massive black Mercedes luxury van, the spacious backseats equipped with massage features.
However, she had a question. “Why didn’t he come?”
Simon’s scalp tightened.
Miss Fairchild’s sheer confidence always left him scrambling for a response.
He forced a polite smile. “The boss is tied up with a critical project at the office… Miss Fairchild, should I take you straight to the South Estate?”
“No, let’s go pick him up at the office.”
“Excuse me?”

Chapter 196
“What? Does your boss keep a secret mistress stashed in his office?”
“Of course not!” Another terrifying question.
In the end, Simon knew he couldn’t win. After dropping the lawyer off at his home, he rerouted the van toward Sterling Enterprises.
Vivian had gotten her phone back. The moment she turned it on, an avalanche of missed calls and messages flooded her screen-from every vulture and opportunist imaginable.
She didn’t bother reading them, simply finding Zoe’s number and hitting dial.
“Boss.”
Zoe let out a massive sigh of relief over the speaker. “Are you okay?”
Vivian stared out the window. The sky in the distance was an impenetrable black, like a gaping hole that could never be filled.
She let out a soft laugh. “I’m perfectly fine. Go home and get some rest. I’ll see you at the office tomorrow.”
She ended the call after just a few words.
Sensing the shift in her mood, Simon glanced in the rearview mirror and broke the silence.
“Miss Fairchild, your assistant… she’s incredibly capable, and fiercely loyal to you. Where did you find her?”
Vivian raised an eyebrow. “Looking to poach her?”
“I wasn’t-”
“Well, you’re out of luck. There’s only one Zoe Hunt.”
He wisely shut his mouth.
Vivian had no interest in making small talk. She leaned her head back against the plush leather seat, staring blankly at the roof of the car.
She didn’t blame Zoe for being so worried; even she was surprised by how unnervingly calm she felt.
