Chapter 225
He had survived this long on sheer wits alone.
Next on the agenda was the equestrian event. Miss Fairchild was bound to be there, which meant someone could finally put a leash on Mr. Sterling… or, more likely, someone else was about to share in his suffering.
The heiress to Huxley Enterprises had only recently taken over the family business. Before she even landed any major deals, her fiercely unconventional reputation had already spread like wildfire.
Take this event, for example.
Instead of hosting some typical, glamorous cocktail party like most young socialites, she threw a horse racing event.
Many found it refreshingly unique, but even those with zero interest in the sport showed up just to save face for the Huxley family.
Vivian had slept beautifully the night before. She woke up, carefully applied her makeup, and, knowing she’d be out in the sun, slathered her arms and legs in sunscreen.
When she stepped out wearing a pair of dark sunglasses, Charlie was completely blown
away.
“Vivian, you’re going to steal the show today.”
Vivian arched an eyebrow. “If that’s the case, I should probably wear a mask.”
The host of the event was a woman. Showing up just to outshine her would be incredibly
poor manners.
Charlie gallantly opened the car door for her, shaking his head in disagreement. “Don’t worry. I know Miss Huxley very well. She’s not petty in the slightest. She’s incredibly straightforward. Honestly, I think the two of you will hit it off.”
Vivian waited for him to slide into the driver’s seat before giving him a mysterious look. “Haven’t you ever heard the saying? One mountain can’t hide two tigers.”
“Hmm?”
Charlie quickly caught her meaning and held up a hand, reassuring her.
“I promise you, Audrey is not like that.”
Vivian subtly raised her brow but didn’t argue.
Men and women often saw the world from completely different perspectives. Even the most carefree women still had a buried, instinctual sense of rivalry.

Chapter 225
After a thirty-minute drive, they arrived at Newport’s largest equestrian club
The facility housed countless purebred racehorses, and many billionaires boarded their prized stallions here. The stables alone were the size of a massive sports stadium
The moment they walked through the gates, a valet guided them forward
While the other guests were herded toward a registration desk, Vivian and Charlie were escorted straight to the VIP lounge. The hostess had clearly given special instructions.
“Audrey.”
“Hey.”
The woman standing by the window turned around. Vivian took in her features. It was a remarkably pleasant face-not jaw-droppingly gorgeous, but a perfect blend of elegance and charm. When she smiled, two slight fangs peeked through, adding an undeniable
cuteness.
Charlie greeted her with a warm, enthusiastic hug, his voice filled with the joy of seeing an old friend.
“The last time we saw each other was in Chile. It’s been way too long. We have to grab a drink later.”
“Obviously. You didn’t think I invited you all the way out here just to ride horses, did you?” Audrey replied smoothly before shifting her gaze to Vivian.
She gave him a knowing wink.
“Not bad. Your girlfriend is stunning.”
She spoke in fluent French, which Vivian understood perfectly.
