Chapter 249
“I… I don’t know.”
Smack.
The pen was tossed onto the desk.
Vivian reeled in all her emotions and looked at her calmly. “I know you would never do anything to betray me. But Zoe, I am someone who doesn’t tolerate nonsense. I know exactly what he’s thinking, and I know exactly what you’re thinking too.”
“If you really like him, just go for it, or be direct about your feelings. Don’t use me as an excuse to go back and forth with him. I really don’t appreciate it.”
In some ways, Zoe belonged to the category of people who were purely innocent at heart.
She had high intelligence and immense self-confidence.
But that was exactly what caused the complete void in her romantic life.
She had been pining over Vincent for years now. Yet, she couldn’t completely bury it in her heart, nor could she fully let it go. And still, she agreed to Vincent’s unreasonable requests-
If things kept going like this, it was going to cause a disaster sooner or later.
Vivian tapped her fingers twice against the desk, her voice turning even colder.
“If you want to play the silent guardian, then quit and go be by his side. If you want to stay here, fix this bad habit of yours immediately. If it involves me, make him ask me himself.”
Zoe’s face had gone completely pale. She pursed her lips, and it took her a long time to whisper, “I understand… Miss.”
Seeing her like this, Vivian felt a pang of sympathy.
Ever since Zoe graduated, she had stayed by Vivian’s side, closer to her than actual family.
Vivian stood up, walked around the desk, and approached Zoe.
“I…”
She opened her mouth, but a sigh escaped first.
“You know what I mean. I just think Vincent is too hard to read, and you two aren’t a good match. Of course, if you want to try, I won’t stop you. I just don’t want to see you twisted up like this, and I definitely don’t want him causing a massive misunderstanding between us in the future.”
Zoe took a deep breath, collected her emotions, and looked up. “I understand. Don’t worry, Miss. I won’t do anything like this again, and I won’t entertain any messy thoughts either. Just staying by your side is my greatest wish.”
Vivian patted her shoulder, leaving it at that.
She had received a text from Vincent last night, saying his flight would land in Northside tonight.
Perhaps knowing she wouldn’t willingly meet him, he had specifically brought up Zoe.

Chapter 249
Vincent Vaughan-
A brilliant diplomat.
With his intellect, how could he not know how Zoe felt about him, or how much Zoe meant to Vivian?
Vivian turned to look out the window. It seemed there were some people she just couldn’t hide from.
After work, Zoe headed home first. Vivian had booked a Northside-style restaurant according to Vincent’s request.
Since she was early, she sent Silas an iMessage and wandered around the nearby mall.
As she stepped outside, an elderly woman asked for her help taking a picture. She checked the time-she still had a few minutes.
“Sure, what would you like as the background?”
