The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 275

Chapter 275

Mrs. Gable watched anxiously from the side. “Mr. Sterling… what should we do? This is all my fault. When the miss got home last night, I noticed she looked a bit pale, but she told me to leave, so I did. Who would have thought her fever would spike this high…”

It was now 10:30 AM.

Silas frowned, saying nothing.

When he had come home last night, the master bedroom lights were off. Assuming Vivian was

already asleep, he had slept in the study. But just as he got to the office this morning, Mrs. Gable had called him rushing back.

“What was her temperature?”

“A hundred… a hundred and two degrees.”

Silas’s breathing grew heavy as he ordered coldly, “Call Simon. Tell him to bring the car around.”

“Yes, yes… I’ll go right now.”

Mrs. Gable scrambled out of the room in a panic.

Silas pulled back the blankets, and a second later, his eyelid twitched violently before he swiftly threw the covers back over her.

This woman…!

Sleeping naked-what kind of ridiculous habit was that?!

He gritted his teeth and resigned himself to digging through the closet… Dressing a woman was an absolute first for him.

Unable to figure out her bra, Silas settled for putting a pair of underwear on her, followed by a tight undershirt, and finally wrapped her in a massive trench coat.

By the time he carried her downstairs, Simon had just pulled the car up to the front door.

“Mr. Sterling, maybe I should take her…”

The man shot him a freezing glare. “Open the door.”

Simon awkwardly pulled his hands back, belatedly realizing he practically deserved a slap for that one. His boss was right there, and he had offered to carry the boss’s woman? If that wasn’t a death wish, what was?

He really was an idiot.

“Mrs. Gable.”

Silas carefully placed her into the backseat, turning his head to issue a stern instruction. “With her condition, she’ll likely need to be admitted. Pack some daily necessities and bring them over. I’ll have Simon text you the room number later.”

Chapter 275

“Right away!”

Mrs. Gable was sick with worry. “Sir, I noticed the miss… she’s been shivering non-stop. Please take good care of her.”

Silas didn’t reply, simply shutting the car door.

Mrs. Gable was right, Vivian hadn’t stopped shivering.

She curled herself into a tight ball, her arms wrapped defensively around herself-a posture that screamed a total lack of safety.

Silas’s expression darkened. He scooped her up and pulled her against his chest, calling out in a low voice, “Vivian, can you hear me?”

No answer.

The woman who usually clung to him shamelessly had suddenly developed strict boundaries in her sickness. She made no attempt to cuddle up to him; she was completely out of it, drowning in the weakness of her illness and trembling like a leaf.

A thick layer of fog seemed to settle over Silas’s dark eyes, making them unreadable and deep.

A few seconds later, he unbuttoned his suit jacket, draping half of it over her.

With fewer layers between them, their body heat transferred more easily.
