Chapter 276
After a series of tests, it was determined that Vivian’s condition wasn’t life-threatening.
“It appears to be an acute fever triggered by catching a chill. We need to focus on bringing the temperature down first, but since she’s still unconscious, we’ll need to admit her.”
The doctor gave a few more instructions and sent a nurse in to set up an IV.
By the time Vivian woke up, it was already afternoon.
She cracked her eyes open. A blurry figure sat beside the bed, while another person stood nearby.
“So loud…”
She opened her mouth, her throat feeling like it was on fire.
The two men by the bed immediately snapped their attention to her.
Simon had been in the middle of a work report. Hearing her complain about the noise made him feel guilty. “Miss Fairchild, you’re finally awake… I’m so sorry, there were just two urgent documents the CEO needed to sign. I’m leaving right now!”
As he turned to leave, the man’s cool voice drifted from behind him, “Have someone send up some soup. Keep it bland.”
“Understood.”
Vivian’s vision finally focused, and she saw Silas.
He was sitting impeccably straight in the chair, one of his hands clasped tightly in hers. It was a posture that looked entirely intimate and dependent.
She rubbed her thumb weakly over the back of his hand and offered a frail smile.
“Mr. Sterling really loves playing hard to get, huh? Were you that worried about me?”
“You’re this sick, and you still can’t behave?”
The man’s expression was stormy as he glared at her. “You’ve been burning up since last night. How did you not notice?”
If Mrs. Gable hadn’t gone upstairs to clean, she might not have been found at all.
“I did notice.”
The woman pouted defensively. “But I figured you were coming home anyway. How was I supposed to know you’d sneak off and not sleep with me?”
”
Silas’s lips parted, but he ultimately just sighed.
“Do you want some water?”
Vivian nodded.
Chapter 276
Silas stood up, poured a glass of water, dropped a straw in it, and held it up to her. “Hold this.”
“You can’t feed it to me?” Vivian stared at him with big, pleading eyes. “All the billionaires in the novels are so gentle. I’m sick-can’t you be a little nicer to me?”
Silas ground his teeth and reached down to adjust the head of her hospital bed, raising it higher.
“Drink it yourself. I’m taking your temperature.”
“Fine.”
At least that was something.
Vivian took the glass and watched as he grabbed the thermometer gun, pressed it to her forehead with a beep, and checked the reading.
99 degrees.
It had come down, but she still needed monitoring.
Breaking a fever meant sweating profusely, and Vivian felt sticky, disgusting, and completely drained of energy. She felt miserable all over.
“Can I take a shower?”
“No.”
Silas called for the doctor, his gaze pausing on her for a fraction of a second. “Cooperate with the treatment. You can use a damp towel to wipe down tonight.”
Dr. Madden hurried in shortly after. He performed a routine check and drew some more blood.
“We need to keep a very close eye on her tonight. If there’s any discomfort, notify the nurses immediately.”
The moment the doctor left, Vivian grabbed Silas’s hand again.
“Did you hear that? You have to pay very close attention tonight.”
