Chapter 293
It wasn’t a serious wound, but to think he had seen right through her.
As for Vincent and Marcus…
There was truly nothing she couldn’t share. Rather than keeping things half-hidden, it was better to tell him everything he wanted to know.
Vivian squeezed her eyes shut, the smooth curve of her jawline showing a hint of tension.
Out on the hospital’s public balcony, Silas leaned against the railing. His tall, imposing frame stood naturally, radiating an aura of untouchable authority.
Simon hurried over. “Mr. Sterling, I’ve processed the readmission.”
“Good.”
He glanced back. “Are you certain the file you gave me has everything?”
“It’s everything we could dig up.” Simon hesitated before continuing.
“The Vaughan family is highly respected, but their internal relationships seem strained. Marcus and Vincent are polar opposites. The one in politics brings glory to the family, while the businessman is utterly ruthless, a terrifying presence throughout Bayport. Old Mr. Vaughan has been losing sleep over it.”
Old Mr. Vaughan wasn’t just a renowned entrepreneur; he was also a highly esteemed calligrapher and a prominent philanthropist.
To see a lifetime of impeccable reputation tarnished by Marcus was something the old man could
never accept.
“He’s just lamenting his reputation. Marcus might be arrogant, but he’s vastly expanded the Vaughan family’s business empire in recent years. The fact that we’ve heard his name all the way here in Northside proves it.”
Simon nodded in agreement.
He sighed. “To think Miss Fairchild is Old Mr. Vaughan’s granddaughter. If she revealed that, it would shake things up. It’s far more leverage than the Fairchild name.”
Silas cast him a cold, silent glare.
Realizing he had misspoken, Simon subtly bit his tongue.
“Boss, if there’s nothing else, should I head back?”
Silas waved him off, turning back to face the view.
The background check Simon had provided aligned perfectly with what Vivian had said. Marcus had supported her during her years abroad. That meant… Marcus was the one who had scrubbed her
past clean. But why go to such lengths?
What was he trying to hide?

Chapter 293
Silas lingered on the balcony for a long time before returning to the room.
Before he even reached the door, the figure standing outside made him narrow his eyes.
“It seems Mr. Granger has a lot of free time lately. Have you taken up peeping as a hobby?”
Jonah Granger turned around, locking eyes with Silas.
The clash between two men was sometimes that simple. A single look was all it took to turn the hallway into a battlefield, the tension thick enough to cut with a knife.
“Silas.”
Jonah stood with one hand casually tucked into his dress pants, appearing perfectly composed.
“I came to see Vivian. I don’t believe that’s any of your business.”
