The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 294

Chapter 294

The clash of egos was so intense that passersby instinctively gave them a wide berth.

Neither man spoke.

The news of Vivian’s hospitalization had been kept tightly under wraps. Jonah had only found out when he arrived for his shift today and overheard some nurses mentioning a Miss Fairchild, realizing she was the only patient in Northside treated for that specific viral infection.

He had just wanted to check on her.

But standing at the door, he hadn’t known what to say.

If it went like their usual encounters, they would likely end up arguing again.

Jonah felt a sudden surge of self-mockery. He had been with her for three years, yet he had no idea how to properly communicate with her.

He had only been standing there for a moment, never expecting Silas to show up.

But it made sense for him to be there.

After all, he was Vivian’s official boyfriend.

Jonah’s profound gaze grew even colder, carrying an aggressive edge as if he were ready to strike at any second.

He shifted his gaze and scoffed. “Don’t get ahead of yourself. Vivian is just using you as a stepping stone. Do you honestly think she cares for you? How long have you even known each other?”

Silas shot him a sidelong glance, remaining silent.

He never liked wasting breath on pointless arguments.

“Let me tell you something…”

Jonah took a slow step forward. Though his demeanor differed from Silas’s, his oppressive presence

rivaled it.

“When it comes to Vivian, maybe I was blind in the past. I missed countless chances to truly understand her. But there’s one thing I know for a fact: her heart has no room for anyone. She might seem attached to you now, but that’s only because it serves her. Once she gets what she wants, you could rip your heart out for her, and she wouldn’t even blink.”

Silas’s eyes flicked lazily over to him.

“So, shouldn’t you be out of the picture by now, Mr. Granger?”

“I’m different from you.”

Jonah’s expression was unwavering. “At the very least, she and I share three years of history. If she resents me, if she hates me, it’s because she once cared for me. What do you have, Mr. Sterling?”

With that, he let out a soft chuckle.

“I won’t disturb Vivian’s rest today. I’ll visit her privately another time.”

He turned and walked away.

Silas watched his retreating back, his dark eyes resembling a bottomless abyss. He pushed the door open. The woman was already asleep, the blanket tossed haphazardly across her waist, highlighting the stunning curves of her slender figure.

*Her heart has no room for anyone. She might seem attached to you now, but that’s only because it serves her. Once she gets what she wants, you could rip your heart out for her, and she wouldn’t even blink.*

Jonah’s words echoed in his ears.

The man certainly knew her well.

Silas stared at her for a few seconds before slowly reaching out, pulling the blanket up to cover her properly.

Sensing the movement, she shifted her head slightly.

Her cheek pressed against the pillow, looking soft and inviting.
