The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 304

Chapter 304

At six-thirty, Silas had just stepped out of a meeting when he received a call from Sloan, asking if he wanted to go check on Liam together.

“Since when did he become such a delicate flower that he needs you to check on him?”

“I’ve got nothing else going on.”

Sloan drawled, “He’s apparently sick. When was the last time we were that pathetic? We have to go laugh at him.”

“He’s sick?”

Silas paused. “I didn’t drive today.”

“Alright, I’ll come pick you up.”

Seven o’clock.

Helena had already finished dinner and cast a thoughtful look at her son sitting on the sofa. “Liam, are you waiting for your secret admirer?”

“Mom, how did you know?”

Liam broke into a smile, his eyes filled with warmth for his mother. “Don’t worry about me. My secret admirer will be here soon.”

“I think you’re dreaming.”

Liam didn’t argue.

Helena muttered under her breath, “Refusing to eat, acting like you run on air. I’m only letting it slide because you’re sick. Otherwise, I would’ve yelled at you by now.”

She had made plans to play poker tonight and was still hesitating whether to go.

“Mom, I have a friend coming over later. You go enjoy yourself.”

“Which friend?”

Helena’s eyes suddenly lit up as she connected it to his earlier comment about a secret admirer. “Is it that Miss Fairchild?”

Her expression brightened instantly. “Let me tell you, son, if a woman is willing to visit you when you’re sick, there’s a huge chance she’s interested. You better seize the opportunity!”

Liam didn’t deny it, the gentle smile lingering on his lips.

“I will.”

“But she’s a guest, so don’t boss her around.” Knowing her son’s personality, Helena was still

a bit worried and warned him, “If you actually make her play the maid, I’ll wring your neck.

“Understood.”

“And one more thing…”

Knowing his mother all too well, Liam knew she would nag him for hours if he didn’t stop her.

Liam pinched the bridge of his nose in exasperation. “Mom, if you don’t leave now, she’s going to feel awkward when she gets here.”

“Alright, alright, I’m leaving.”

Helena was in high spirits as she grabbed her purse and headed out the door.

Time ticked away, and soon it was past seven.

Liam twirled his phone in his palm, his deep gaze frequently darting toward the window, filled with complex anticipation.

A little while later.

The doorbell suddenly rang.

A sharp grin tugged at the corner of his mouth as he went out to open the door himself.

Walking across the courtyard, the shadows cast by the night fell on the flagstone path, blurring the edges of his tall frame.

Liam pulled open the gate, his eyes brimming with unbridled confidence. “You…”

He started to speak, then stopped.

He frowned at the two men standing at the door. “Why is it you guys?”

“Who else would it be?”

Sloan raised an eyebrow, scanning Liam’s face suspiciously. “Liam, that expression… Are you expecting a woman?”
