Chapter 309
Vivian looked at him oddly. Over the past while, she had gotten a decent grasp on Silas’s tastes. He preferred lighter flavors but was definitely not a picky eater. He ate whatever was put in front of him. Even Martha couldn’t say what his favorite dish was.
Chicken noodle soup.
Was there some special story behind it?
A sudden realization hit Vivian. She smiled and blinked. “You saw Liam, didn’t you?”
Silas frowned. He pressed a finger to her forehead and pushed her back a bit. “Master that dish before you speak to me again.”
“…It’s the middle of the night. How am I supposed to learn it now?”
Just watching videos wouldn’t work; cooking required hands-on practice.
Silas’s gaze shifted subtly. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Aren’t you very good at getting what you want, Miss Fairchild?”
The double entendre dripped with heavy sarcasm.
His passive-aggressive tone was incredibly jarring.
Vivian crossed her arms and shot him a resentful look. “If you’re jealous, just say you’re jealous. Can’t you speak normally?”
Silas said nothing.
Silas pressed his lips together. They twitched slightly, but he couldn’t form the words.
Jealous?

“Out of respect for me…” Silas’s lips twitched, his handsome face twisting with a dark, cynical edge. “If he asked you to meet up with him alone one day, would you brazenly use that same excuse?”
Meeting up with him alone.
That phrasing was actually quite polite.

If he had been a cruder man, he probably would have used much uglier words.
Vivian froze for a moment. “But it really was out of respect for you! Your buddy said he was starving to death. I couldn’t just ignore him, right? It was just a meal. Stop being so petty, okay?”
Petty.
Silas ran his tongue over his teeth and let out a chuckle.
But the laugh held absolutely no warmth.
“Miss Fairchild.”
It wasn’t the first time he had called her that, but it was the first time he had used that
specific tone. It sounded a lot like the way he called Grace “Miss Gifford,” though with a
subtle difference.
It felt as though he was about to place her in the exact same category as Grace-the “discarded” category.
Almost. But not quite yet.
He had still left her a sliver of breathing room.
Vivian felt a strange, sudden jolt in her chest.
“Don’t try to play with fire. You might just end up with nothing, burning yourself to ashes in the
