The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 472

Silas lightly rubbed his fingers together. After a long moment, he lowered his head, masking the depth in his eyes. "Chairman Fairchild truly is remarkable," he said softly. "Three billion dollars is just a 'mere' sum in your mouth."

Dominic gave an awkward laugh. "Well, not exactly..."

"But since my daughter married you, doesn't that make us family? Let alone three billion, even thirty billion... the Sterling family could easily afford it, right?"

"Heh."

Silas let out a short, chilling laugh.

Instead of answering, he asked, "So, Chairman Fairchild came all the way to Northside just to ask for money?"

"Not entirely." Believing the three billion was practically in his pocket, Dominic spoke with even more unearned familiarity, sighing heavily. "Look, after spending time with her, you should know that Vivian... she doesn't have a great temper. She's always arguing with her sister. See, Amara is still stuck in the hospital right now."

Drunk men were always talkative.

Dominic was especially so.

In his eyes, since Silas had married Vivian, he ought to respect his father-in-law.

If he was willing to hand over three billion, what couldn't they talk about?

"Amara has never suffered this kind of grievance. I wanted Vivian to apologize to her, but that rebellious..." He caught himself just before uttering the insult, realizing he was speaking to someone outside his immediate circle. He softened his phrasing.

"That girl Vivian is incredibly stubborn. She just refuses to bow her head. When you have some free time, help me talk some sense into her. There's no such thing as an overnight grudge between sisters, right?"

"She wasn't the one who hit her."

"..."

Dominic froze at those words. "...What?"

Silas stared at him with a half-smile, repeating his words. "I said, she wasn't the one who hit her."

"Then who was it?"

"Me."

"..."

Dominic's first instinct was to say that was impossible. But as he opened his mouth, he reconsidered. Why wouldn't it be possible? They were a married couple. If Vivian had used some tricks, Silas would naturally side with her.

Dominic shuddered violently and stammered out the location.

The night grew deeper. The city was cloaked in a layer of gray smog, with the neon lights embedded in the towering skyscrapers gleaming faintly like countless ambitious eyes.

After sending Dominic back to his hotel, Silas sent two messages to Simon.

The first was an order to dispatch two bodyguards to keep a covert eye on Dominic.

The second was to thoroughly investigate the cause of Vivian's mother's death.

Silas had always suspected that Vivian had an ulterior motive for approaching him, but he had never figured out what it was.

She appeared to be clinging to him for status, but after spending all this time together—

She didn't care about money.

Astra Media was a highly profitable company, and she had swindled a massive amount of cash out of Dominic. If she just wanted to live comfortably, she couldn't spend all that money in a lifetime.

Seeing Dominic today and witnessing his attitude toward Vivian, Silas suddenly realized he had overlooked a crucial detail.
