The Stolen Heiress: The Billionaires’ Little Star novel Chapter 17

Her desk mate just said, "Oh," instantly losing interest and stopping the conversation.

Daisy was used to this kind of cold treatment. She lowered her head and diligently took notes in her book.

At noon, it was time for lunch.

Daisy took her lunchbox out of her cloth bag. As soon as she stepped outside, she saw Xavier standing on the playground.

Stone Creek Elementary only had one PE teacher, and he was currently having a shootout with Xavier.

With his long limbs, Xavier smoothly raised his arm, his muscles flexing seamlessly as he casually tossed the basketball.

Three-pointer!

The PE teacher marveled, "Kids these days are truly impressive!"

Xavier didn't reply. He whipped his head around, instantly spotting Daisy.

She stood there all by herself, clutching an aluminum lunchbox.

He immediately strode over to her with his long legs. "Time to eat?"

Daisy sniffled, looking somewhat guilty. "I forgot to bring a lunchbox for you."

She opened her lunchbox, keeping the lid for herself while handing the bottom container to Xavier. "You can eat out of this."

Xavier swallowed the words, 'Aluminum lunchboxes are toxic,' right as they reached his lips.

He took the container and said, "Alright."

The school had a small cafeteria, less than a hundred square feet. A few large metal pots were lined up, containing cornbread, eggs, some dark, questionable-looking meat and noodles, oxidized stir-fried vegetables, and a pot of soup.

Actually, it didn't even look like soup. It looked like dishwater, Xavier thought.

Daisy served herself her portion of food.

She then led Xavier to sit on the steps outside the classroom, giving him half of her meal.

To the Sterling heir, this stuff would normally be considered worse than pig slop.

But right now, he found it impossible to refuse.

Daisy found a small twig, peeled off the bark, washed it clean with water, and turned it into silverware for Xavier.

Xavier took two bites.

...It tasted absolutely terrible.

He couldn't help but look at Daisy.

Daisy hadn't eaten yet. She was busy stuffing the cornbread and boiled egg into her pockets.

Xavier raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing?"

"Taking it back for Grandpa," Daisy said.

Those two words popped into Xavier's head again—too hard.

Her life was just too hard.
