The Stolen Heiress: The Billionaires’ Little Star novel Chapter 19

The cornbread Daisy brought back for Grandpa Lowell was thrown away in a fit of rage.

Grandpa cursed angrily, "Where's the contract? Why didn't they sign the contract with me?"

Daisy was just about to explain when Xavier scooped her up by the waist and carried her away.

"You still haven't set up a place for me to sleep," Xavier said.

Daisy realized he was right, so she called out, "Grandpa, wait a bit before getting angry, I'll be right back."

Grandpa's rage caught right in his throat, nearly choking him to death.

Daisy took Xavier to see where she slept.

It was a flat patch of ground covered decently by roof tiles, and the adjacent wall didn't have any holes.

First, two layers of cardboard from packaging boxes were laid down to block the dampness from the floor. Next came a layer of clean cloth, followed by a torn cotton quilt, and finally a bedsheet. This made up her 'bed.'

Xavier took one look and seriously wondered if the beggars sleeping under overpasses had better setups.

Fortunately, although the house was dilapidated, Daisy had cleaned it immaculately inside and out.

The 'bed' was no exception.

But Xavier was still furious.

Because the only real bed with four legs in the entire house was occupied by Grandpa Lowell.

At such a tender age, Daisy was forced to curl up in a place like this, suffering through one grueling night after another.

"What do you do in the winter?" Xavier asked, his throat tightening as he spoke.

Daisy dropped down and gave him a demonstration.

She curled up into a tight ball, hugging her knees closely. "If I do this, it's not too cold," she said.

She looked like a scrawny, pitiful animal cub.

He knew it!

Her family simply couldn't afford heating!

"Where is the jacket I gave you?" Xavier asked.

Daisy pointed.
