"But the school is still really far."
"How far?"
"Two more hours of walking through the mountains."
"..."
"You'll catch a cold from the wind."
"..."
Right now, Quinn had only one thought in his head: when he got back, he was going to tell his father that the multi-million dollar antique he bought was a fake.
Quinn had kept his mouth shut before because he didn't want to hurt his historically illiterate father's feelings.
But now...
He really wanted to break his dad's heart.
"Never mind." Daisy sighed softly. "I'll take you to find someone who lives nearby."
[I can feel how tired Daisy is of him.]
[Daisy is single-handedly carrying this whole family! Ugh, I can't help but love her even more!]
Before the main road was built, Daisy had walked this small path countless times, so she knew exactly where people lived.
She led Quinn to a house, poked her head inside, and let a hint of sweetness show in her voice. "Mrs. Gable, do you have any hot water? We fell into the field."
Quinn used the hot water she had boiled and dried his clothes by the stove.
When he finally cleaned himself up and came out, Daisy was haggling with the woman. "Mrs. Gable, is ten dollars okay?"
Mrs. Gable said, "No, no way, fifty!"
Daisy looked pitiful. "But I don't have that much money."
Mrs. Gable put her hands on her hips. "Everyone for miles knows you're filming that show. They say you've already paid off all the debts your dad owed. Making those shows pays big bucks, and I haven't even asked you for a hundred yet."
Quinn vaguely understood what was happening and interjected, "Why do you have to pay?"
Daisy glared at him. "Because you used her water and her stove."
Quinn thought about it for a second. "Just give her the money. Aren't you going to be late for school?"
Daisy shook her head furiously. "I can be late, but I can't overpay!"
