The Stolen Heiress: The Billionaires’ Little Star novel Chapter 4

Xavier's mouth twitched. Let alone drink water, he didn't even want to step foot into this miserable shack.

But as the words of refusal rose to his tongue, he met Daisy's bright, clear eyes and swallowed them back down.-

"Well, she's home now. How about we head back?" a staff member suggested cautiously.

If the guy hadn't said anything, it might have been fine. But the moment he spoke, Xavier's rebellious streak flared back to life.

Placing a hand firmly on Daisy's back, Xavier pushed her forward. "Let's go. We're going inside."

Daisy walked carefully through the wind and rain, while Xavier took one long stride and accidentally crushed the threshold of her house.

The already dilapidated shack just got a little more dilapidated.

Xavier: "..."

"Don't worry," he muttered, "I'll pay you for it."

Before his voice even faded, a furious string of curses echoed from inside, spoken in a heavy local dialect. "You little tramp, you're only coming back now? Are you trying to freeze your grandpa to death?"

The speaker's accent was so thick and his voice so phlegmy that the words slurred together.

Xavier didn't understand a single syllable.

Daisy understood perfectly. She just gave a soft sniffle, then stepped over the broken threshold and jogged over to light the firewood.

She scooped water from a large vat, poured it into the pot, and propped two potatoes on a rack above it. This way, when the water boiled, she'd have hot water to drink and the potatoes would be cooked enough to eat.

Xavier followed her inside and asked, "Who's that?"

"It's Grandpa," Daisy replied.

Xavier frowned. *Why did he sound so vicious?*

"What is this thing?" Xavier asked, his gaze shifting around the room.

Daisy answered him while tending to the fire, "I'm boiling water."

Xavier pointed at the shapeless mound of dirt. "No, I mean, what is this actual thing?"

"It's the stove."

[Don't drink it! Ew! This house is absolutely filthy.]

In stark contrast to the aggressive comments flooding the livestream, Xavier's eye just twitched violently. He snatched the bowl from Daisy's hands, slammed it down onto the dirt stove, and snapped, "Who wants to drink water?"

[Thank God. He didn't drink it.]

[She's just a rural kid, her manipulation tactics are weak. Who would want anything handed to them by those filthy hands?]

But in the very next second...

Xavier scooped Daisy up, tucked her under his arm, turned his head, and glared frostily at the production crew. "Where can she take a hot shower? Let her go wash up first. The kid's about to freeze her brain off."

*And even with her brain frozen, she still tried to pour me water,* he thought.

Xavier paused for a moment, then cursed in absolute dissatisfaction. "I honestly thought she could shower in her own house. What kind of a home is this? What is this place? It's just a thatched hut! Even a thatched hut is better than this."

[...Huh?]

The mean-spirited netizens in the chat froze, feeling as if they had just been slapped across the face.
