The Tough Girl and Her Beast King Lovers novel Chapter 5

Sebastian sighed again. "When a female wants to end a bond, she can use her ability to shatter and absorb her mate's soul.

"A low-level mate will die instantly. A high-level mate might survive, but his power will drop badly.

"But males don't have that kind of ability.

"Once that drop of soul is bound inside the matriarch, it belongs to her for life.

"Little female, you still don't understand just how precious females are here.

"In this world, killing a female brings Heaven's Wrath.

"Our Beast God is truly merciful and kind to females."

Laurel watched Sebastian's dark, unreadable eyes in the firelight. She could feel deep sadness stirring inside him.

She wanted to ask what "Heaven's Wrath" meant, but she also knew this topic needed to end.

So, she picked up a stick and gently stirred the fire.

The flames were dying down, and the sun was almost rising.

She had asked too much tonight and learned too much. If she kept going, it would be rude, and it might make him suspicious.

"It's almost morning," Laurel asked casually. "Are you leaving or staying here to heal?"

She glanced at the wounds on his chest and his pale face. If he left now and met one of those deadly beasts, he probably wouldn't survive.

After a moment of silence, Sebastian answered, "I'll stay for five days. I need to use your hot spring. When I leave, I will pay you in spirit stones."

He emphasized the word pay, but he was still confused inside. Why would a little female live alone in such a dangerous place, and claim a wild hot spring as her own?

"I don't need spirit stones. I don't even have anywhere to spend them. But if you really want to thank me, can you hunt a dangerous beast and bring it back to me?"

As she spoke, she licked her lips like a hungry child.

Right now, the only meat she could eat was fish. And honestly, it felt like diet food.

When she imagined juicy beef or lamb sizzling over a fire, she almost started drooling. "I haven't eaten meat in so long, I almost forgot what it tastes like..." she muttered.

Her cute, lively expression made Sebastian freeze for a second. Without even thinking, he nodded.

"Alright. I'll hunt a big one for you."

Laurel hadn't seen another living person in a long time. Just knowing Sebastian would stay for five days made her mood brighten instantly.

She gathered dry grass and wove a thick mat. Then she placed it under a simple shelter for him to use as a bed.

After that, she mixed several herbs that helped stop bleeding and fight infection. She crushed them into paste and carefully spread it over his wounds.

As she worked, she prayed silently, "Oh Lord, please don't let these herbs react badly together. If I accidentally kill him, I'm done for."

Sebastian stared at Laurel as she treated him, his heart suddenly began to race.

Her small hands were soft and pale. Her fingertips were slightly pink as she dipped into the herbal paste. She applied it with careful gentleness.

The moment her fingers touched his skin, it felt like a feather brushing over him, or like a tiny electric spark. It made his body tingle, and his mind go hazy.

He couldn't help asking, "Little female, are you a shaman healer?"

"Of course not," Laurel said quickly. "I just know what a few herbs do. If I mess up your healing, that's not my responsibility."

Sebastian ate quietly, but inside he was full of excitement. If she can make an Aquabeast taste this good, I can't even imagine how amazing dangerous beast meat would be!
