Sebastian’s ear tips flushed faintly as he hurried to add, “You’ll be better taken care of there. You’ll have meat every day, and all the other supplies you need.”

Laurel hesitated.

She did want to go with Sebastian. She wanted to join a communal life and survive under the tribe’s protection, but…

“Moving sounds like a lot of trouble. And you said there’s poisonous fog around the outer edge of Wildborn North. I can’t get through it.”

Sebastian reached into his fur pouch and took out a plant still beaded with dew, handing it to her.

“This is a poison-warding herb from deep in the forest. Eat it and you’ll be able to pass through the gas. You don’t need to bring much. Once we’re at the tribe, I’ll help you settle in.”

Only then did she notice the heavy moisture clinging to his long hair and eyelashes.

Her heart tightened. “Did you spend the whole night looking for this herb? Aren’t you cold? Or hungry? I made some stew. Come have some.”

Sebastian let her pull him toward the fire and smiled. “I’m not cold.”

A quiet, tender feeling spread through Laurel’s chest.

He had searched all night for the herb just to take her away.

He hadn’t planned to leave her behind.

When he said he’d come back, he meant it.

She reheated the stew and pan-fried plenty of meat slices.

Sebastian hovered by the pot. Every time she finished frying a piece, he ate it right away. He really did look starved,

“The meat needs to be flipped,” she said with a laugh, but she didn’t stop him from devouring

She couldn’t help rubbing his silver hair. “You’re not a Fenfrost at all. You’re clearly a fully Samoyed.

The moment Sebastian tasted the fried meat, his pupils widened, and he nearly teared up. “This is amazing!”

“I am a Fenfrost,” he said, shaking out his long hair, completely unconcerned about his messy head, and went straight back into eating mode.

Their luggage was simple. Just dried food, herbs, and a few jars of seeds.

Sebastian wrapped everything in a beast hide, then pulled another piece of fur from his own pouch and handed it to her.

“It’s cold outside. Wear this.”

“Thank you.” Laurel smiled sweetly, her eyes curving. This Samoyed really was thoughtful.

The fur was brand new, pure white and soft, without a single flaw. It gleamed with a cool silver sheen in the sunlight, like fine fox fur.

“Did you hunt this yesterday? It’s beautiful. I really like it. Thank you, Sebastian.”

“It was nothing. I just thought the color would suit you.” His tone stayed calm, but his ears turned red.

Nothing, he said.

The night before, Fenfrost had encountered a feral beast commander deep in the forest, its entire body snow white, a purple spirit stone on its forehead marking its exceptional strength.

Fenfrost had taken one look at its fur. Snowy and plush, somewhat similar to his own beast form. Let it be honored by becoming a gift.

Didn’t Laurel like his beast form? Then he’d give her this.

After a fierce battle, Fenfrost cheerfully tanned the hide in the water.

Thinking about how much the little female liked things clean, he even bathed before coming back.

Laurel wrapped the fox fur around herself and spun in front of Sebastian. “Does it look good?” “It looks good,” he replied gruffly, a sudden, inexplicable panic rising in his chest.

Damn it. How was Laurel this pretty? Even the breeze she stirred when she turned felt soft and sweet, scratching right at his beast heart.

If they went back to the tribe, could he really keep her safe?

Wouldn’t those males swarm her like starving wolves?

But he really didn’t want to part from her.

Not even for a few days.

Just thinking about how empty he’d felt yesterday when he hadn’t seen the little female made Sebastian even more determined to take her with him.

Wait.

He suddenly noticed the clear spirit stone hanging at her neck. Pointing at it, he asked, “You like that?”

“It’s the first gift you ever gave me. I made it into a necklace. Does it look nice?”

“Yeah.” Sebastian nodded obediently.

It looked wonderful on her. The sparkling stone swayed against her pale neck, making her loc even more delicate.

But how could a common, low-grade spirit stone possibly suit a little female this beautiful?

He hurriedly dug out the top-quality purple spirit stone from the fierce beast commander he’d
