Chapter 81 The Vessel
Julian’s eyes widened in fury. His hands trembled as he pointed his cane at her.
“Fine, fine! You’ve outgrown me, huh? Don’t need me or your family anymore?”
He let out a shaky breath. “If that’s how you want it, I won’t stop you. But don’t come crawling back one day, begging us to feed you!”
Venus smiled calmly. “I’ll be fine. Just make sure you and your family don’t come begging me.”
Julian’s chest tightened. His face turned pale with anger. “You’ve really lost your mind! How would we ever beg you?”
Venus gave him a fake smile. “Wouldn’t that be best?”
She stood up and said, “If that’s all, I’ll be leaving.” She paused at the doorway and added, “Oh, and Mr. Burn, tell your sons to stop bothering me. My hands aren’t gentle. If I hurt one of them next time, that’s on you.”
“You’ve lost your mind!” Harvey shouted, his face red with rage.
The three of them watched as Venus walked out the door.
“Dad, I already told you that we shouldn’t have brought that rascal home! Did you see her attitude? She acts so full of herself, as if she believes she is someone important! Harvey fumed.
Julian’s face turned cold and dark. “Venus must come home.”
Harvey and Megan exchanged confusing glances, neither of them understanding why Julian was so determined to bring Venus back.
“Dad, you saw it yourself,” Harvey argued. “Venus is rebellious. The minute she comes home, the whole place turns into chaos. I’m done. She’s no daughter of mine.”
Julian’s face darkened. He struck Harvey on the head with his cane. “You don’t get to decide that! You’ll take her in whether you like it or not!”
“Dad!” Harvey winced, rubbing his head in frustration. “I just don’t get it. Why does she come back? What’s so special about her?”
Julian let out a deep sigh, his expression grave. “I can’t hide it from you anymore.” He lowered his voice. “I had our fortune read. We’re facing five years of hardship ahead. Disasters, one after another. The only way for us to survive this is to bring Venus home. She’s meant to block the misfortune for all of us. If she stays away, things will only keep getting worse for us.”

Harvey let out a bitter laugh. “Dad, seriously? It’s the modern age, and you still believe in this crap?”
Julian’s eyes narrowed. “You call it superstition? Think carefully. Before Venus came home, didn’t the doctors find a tumor in you?”
“Axel’s company ran into a financial crisis. Neil’s surgery almost got him infected. Keir was kidnapped overseas during a tech conference. Rayne nearly drowned on set. Lumi couldn’t stop having nightmares and went sleepless for days. Even Bree and Percy had a streak of bad luck-small accidents, cuts, and bruises here and there.
“But the night Venus came back home, everything changed. Axel’s company bounced back to normal. Neil’s test showed he wasn’t infected. Keir was rescued by international police. Rayne turned the near-tragedy into fame and gained even more fans. And Lumi stopped having nightmares altogether.”
Julian leaned forward, voice calm but firm. “And you-you were diagnosed with cancer. After surgery, it completely disappeared.”
Harvey froze. The more he thought about it, the stranger it seemed.
Ever since Venus returned, everyone in the family had been thriving. Everything they touched started turning around.
Julian gave a knowing look. “Now think about what happened after she ran away. Didn’t troubles come one after another?”
Harvey’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Dad, you’re right! That’s exactly what happened! You mean … Venus is really that powerful?”
Julian said in a calm, steady voice, “Venus wasn’t born under an easy sign. She doesn’t have much luck with family ties. But she carries something rare, and she would bring this family’s good fortune. If we keep her close, she’ll turn away trouble and bring luck to us all.”
Harvey’s eyes widened as it clicked. “So that’s why you’ve been doing everything you can to keep her here.”
Julian’s face darkened. “Exactly. And what had you idiots done? You kept pushing her, driving her away.” He slammed his hand on the table. “No matter what it takes, we need to bring her back.”
He took a slow breath before adding, “If she stays under this roof for five full years, our misfortune will pass.”
Megan frowned, curious. “And after five years? What happens to Venus then?”
Julian’s tone turned cold and dismissive. “She’s just the vessel. The cure’s catalyst. Once it’s used,
