Mathis nodded.

Cynthia completely forgot the humiliation of being kicked out of the estate. Her spirits soared—this just proved how special she was to Mathis.

She quickly pressed her advantage, "Can I take pictures of our new home whenever I want?"

Mathis's tone was incredibly gentle. "Whatever makes you happy."

He turned his gaze toward the passing city streets. It seemed winter was arriving early this year.

The doctors had been spot-on; Mabel woke up exactly two days later. The moment she opened her eyes and saw Bianca's pale, gaunt face, she reached out her hand.

"My sweet girl, don't cry. Did that man hurt you?"

Tears welled up in Bianca's eyes. "No. He agreed to let you stay with me from now on. Let's move to Austin City, okay?"

Mabel smiled warmly. "Okay! Wherever my Bunny is, that's our home."

Right in the middle of their heartfelt moment, Mathis walked into the room.

Bianca's face tightened with anger the second she saw him, a reaction he didn't miss.

"The villa in the Tech Park will be legally transferred to your name on the ninth," he announced smoothly. "I've already arranged a private medical team for the house, so Grandma won't have to live in a nursing facility."

Bianca stared at him in disbelief. "What kind of game are you playing now, Mathis? I have absolutely nothing left for you to exploit."

Instead of snapping back, Mathis spoke with uncharacteristic softness. "I'm not asking for anything in return. I just want you to be comfortable. Consider it compensation for what happened three years ago."

Bianca didn't bother turning him down. If he was handing things out, she was taking them.

Just like her lawyer Hector Goodwin had told her: A woman should absolutely leverage a man's guilt. Take whatever he's willing to give while he still feels bad. Fight him on principle if you want, but never fight him when it comes to the money.

Mabel couldn't believe they were fighting in a hospital room. She knew her granddaughter was beautiful and naturally drew attention, but these two grown men looked ready to tear each other apart.

"Mr. Wilder," Mabel interjected smoothly, "we'll be counting on you to help us get back to Austin City."

She had zero interest in acknowledging Mathis; cheating men disgusted her.

For the trip back, Milo had spared no expense, chartering a Gulfstream G550. It was fully loaded with a climate-controlled shower suite, VIP boarding at both terminals, and ran a cool three hundred and fifty grand for the flight.

Mathis had actually planned to charter a plane himself, but Milo had beaten him to the punch.

He knew Bianca wouldn't choose him right now.

Saying nothing, he reached out to help Mabel out of her bed.

She swatted his hand away. "Mr. Jagger, since you've chosen another woman, you should focus your energy on treating her right. Our Bianca doesn't share her men, so please stop pretending you still care."
