The only people allowed inside were the two parties and their respective lawyers.

Jax had been dying to show up and watch the drama, but Hector Goodwin had strictly forbidden it.

Mathis and the judge both ended up stuck in brutal traffic for a solid hour.

He had brought Aveline with him.

To Mathis, the violent storm outside felt like a cosmic sign that even God was trying to prevent this divorce.

Bianca, however, was already patiently waiting.

Ever since taking custody of Aveline, Mathis had entirely swapped his sharp, intricately embroidered dress shirts for soft, plain ones, terrified of scratching the baby's delicate skin.

He looked visibly exhausted, sporting a faint shadow of stubble on his jawline that suggested he hadn't slept a wink.

Striding briskly into the hall with Aveline in his arms, the little girl immediately lit up at the sight of her mother.

She reached out with her chubby little hands. Bianca glanced at Mathis, asking quietly, "Can I hold her?"

His voice was tight with restraint. "She's your daughter. Hold her whenever you want."

A warm wave of tenderness washed over Bianca as she took the toddler into her arms. She held her right up until the bailiff called them in, reluctantly handing Aveline over to Wilma, the nanny.

Completely oblivious to the legal gravity of her parents being there together, Aveline waved happily. "See you later, Mommy!"

Unable to resist, Bianca pressed two soft kisses to her rosy cheeks. "See you soon, sweetie."

The court clerk watched the interaction in utter disbelief. Most couples tearing up their marriage licenses were at each other's throats.

Considering the husband's highly publicized and scandalous affair, the fact that the wife was keeping it so classy just proved she had an iron will.

The proceedings went off without a single hitch. After Hector presented the evidence, Shayne merely went through the motions of a cross-examination, finding absolutely zero grounds for a counter-argument.
