Bianca carefully locked her raging emotions behind a blank mask, fully aware of how piercingly observant Mathis could be.

For now, her best strategy was to play the part of a woman who had simply moved on from the pain.

"It's fine," she replied evenly. "I've honestly forgotten all about the past."

Aveline sat obediently in her high chair while Wilma unpacked her special utensils.

They were an absolutely adorable, custom-made cartoon set that Mathis had specifically ordered for her.

Mathis dismissed Wilma to the main dining hall. "I'll call you if we need anything."

While they waited for the food, Mathis pulled out a pair of rings.

They were a set of wedding bands; the diamond on the woman's ring was massive, capturing the overhead lights in a brilliant, fiery sparkle.

The men's band was elegantly understated.

Two years ago, she would have eagerly waited for any scrap of commitment from him. Now, staring at the glittering jewels, her expression didn't even flicker.

"None of the promises I made you were lies," Mathis began softly. "When I said we would have a real wedding and a honeymoon, I meant every single word.

I had these custom-designed. By the time they finally arrived, you were already gone."

"Then there's really no point in bringing them out now," Bianca replied calmly. "After all, we're getting a divorce."

His eyes stung with a bitter ache. He had fully expected her verbal daggers, yet he still desperately needed her to know he hadn't forgotten what he owed her.

He let out a hollow, self-deprecating laugh. "Have you truly erased everything about us from your memory?"

"Yes," Bianca admitted with brutal honesty. "I didn't even remember your phone number. I had to get it from Xanthe last night."

Mathis practically heard his own heart shatter into pieces.

Unbothered, she casually went back to shredding a piece of chicken and placing the bite-sized pieces into Aveline's bowl.

Thick blue veins bulged on the back of his hands. She hadn't even bothered to remember his number.

Bianca patiently fed Aveline bite by bite, the toddler's little mouth soon smeared with a glossy sheen of oil.

It was incredibly obvious just how ecstatic the little girl was.
